I'm pretty sure this kart is a yellow jacket, but it could be just the seat... the only reason the make/model might be important is the rear axle. I'm trying to remove the rear wheels and I wanted to know if that key is threaded or just rusted on there. Any tricks besides PB Blaster and heat to get the rear wheels off?

Ready to Sawzall the wheel off!

Trying to apply some physics, along with heat and penetrating catalyst. So far no luck. I'll find a stronger piece of angle iron instead of a 60 year old box wrench tomorrow...

I would have thought I'd see a channel. On either side. It looks like the key is simply there to apply pressure to the threads, like a spacer or some sort. Check out the other side, which appears to be even worse. I'll keep soaking. And heating. And beating. If you guys see me shopping for 9.5x8 wheels, you'll know I cut them off.

And all of this effort, so I can take them off and put them on to fit the beast in my Audi wagon (black wagon in the background of one of the pics) for weekend rides in the inner city. Yes, a friend of mine and I started a club called Ghetto Karts in Chicago. Facebook group avail (https://www.facebook.com/groups/ghettokarts/), if anyone wants to join, just ask.

Vacant lot + a few karts + music + food + support from municipal workers = good times! Not sure how this forum handles links to videos, but I'll try to post one:

Isn't this what it's all about??!!

AWESOME! Even better that you have the local authorities on board; good work

Yeah, we don't do vids here, that link didn't work... What you need to do is upload to a 3rd party hosting site (like youtube) then post the link here...

Edit: Oh yeah, the kart  Now that you've moved the hub some, is there a keyway in the body of the axle? The thread is, obviously, smaller than the axle itself, which could be why there's no keyway in the thread...

If that is the case & there is a keyway try knocking the keyway back in with a pin punch... you may just move it enough to break the whole assembly free...

Nice video.. Looks like you have a lot of space to open up that track a bit. Would be fun to see a few more karts rolling on there. You get enough folk running id suggest helmets.. even at 15mph the concrete hertz the head ;)

I was able to click the link and download it instead of stream..

I can't see a keyway track on the axle. There is a track in the hub. But you've given me an idea, I'm going to attempt to (carefully) drill out the key. I'm not overly concerned about the threads back there as the lug has an additional 1/8" clearance because of a washer. Too bad I can't get it on my drill press...

For the video, I'll convert it later. For now, you might be able to right-click and save it locally. It's fairly large @ 33MB.

Whoa....I wouldn't. ......

Now. ...here's the funny thing about when people try to take stuff off.....when they have a lot of trouble. ...they get so fixated on trying to get that sucker off....that they absolutely balk at the idea of going the other way. ....spray the backside with PB Blaster and beat it back. ....then back out....then back in. ...each time. ...it will move a little more. ......until it falls off. ....
