Hey guys, i've started a shopping cart go kart project i am nearly touching the ends of it, it cost me about 250$ USD for everything (because most of the thing are from junkyard of family members) anyway, i've seen videos of guys getting their engine blown up and ..........., since i am on a limited budget and i can't spend no more on the go kart i would like to ask how can i "not blow up the engine" lol, the only things i am willing to change is the tires, but the clutch, bearings, engine , sprockets .............. these stuff i cannot afford to change so is there a way to keep them safe from getting blown up lol,

Another question, Where should i attach the sprocket and and the disc brakes in order that the kart has power speed and can drift I.E
keeping the the brakes in the rear or attaching the sprocket in the middle of the axle or .............

Fine one last question..., What do you recommend, should i attach the sprocket directly to the clutch or ........
Thank You

:welcome2: we need more info. Please fill out your location too. It helps.....
If you take care of your engine, not rev it up all the way all the time, keep good oil in it,....... You should be fine. Usually an engine blows up from miss-use or being treated like crap. Maintenance is key to longevity.....

If your kart has a solid axle - no differential - you are not going to be able to power it while also stabbing the brakes. But most karts can power slide on their own if the CG is low and the rear tires are not too sticky.

I am 17 nearly 18, and fab skills are average i guess

Okay, if you would have said 14....... I'd just walk..... BUT I'm gonna stick around and see what happens.
Not knowing anything about your kart, other than you used a shopping cart....... NO! No atv / dirt bike engine...... A 212 cc 6.5 hp predator is all you need. It has plenty of power and torque to push karts up to 45-50mph..... BUT that's not gonna be you.....
When you post up some pics, and or information on this kart, we will be glad to help. But with no info, no idea what best suits your needs..... :thumbsup:

However you build a "drift shopping cart", I'd highly suggest a full face helmet, neck collar, rib protector, gloves, boots, good thick pants and an up to date life insurance policy.

FiremanJim do you have links of the engine? since i didnt find it online

:lolgoku::lolgoku:
As link to a predator? Well yeah! What state are you in? I'll find one close to you, or you can order online and pay for shipping..... It's a Habor Freight engine. That's the store name.... Harbor Freight....... You probably have one near you......

If you plan to put a 13hp engine on a shopping cart, don't worry about those items I mentioned previously, they won't help.

If you're gonna use more than the 212, I suggest getting one of these also......
