I have had the kart for over a year and I have been looking for a cheap sled to transplant the motor into my Vortex. Well i bought a 77 artic cat 500cc sled for $100. I took it out in a field today and its insainly fast and started to pull the skis off the ground now im having second thoughts on this motor swap. What does everyone think. I dont want to pay $500+ for a smaller cc sled.

Its not the speed but the power. I don't know if I'll be able to get it to hook up.

Wider tires. As an old hot rodder once told me "We didn't start putting bigger meats on the back to start a fashion trend. We did it to get the rear to hook up". Basically, if you can't control the spin, you don't have enough rubber meeting the road. End of story.

:stir:   :cheers2:

Can't be Hot Rodder/Gokart guy' if you are worried your going to go to fast. There lot's people who have very fast machines with lot of power. That don't go fast.

Wider rear tires will help. Don't forget the weight of the sled motor on the rear will make the front end lighter and will effect how it steers also. I think it will work out nicely though.

II change my mind its too much power it won't be usable. I may go with a 230 cc 4 wheeler motor.
