I have come across SEVERAL replies to posts that express a demeanor of arrogance. The answers given were either wrong(by a majority factor), or the 'opinions' expressed, were directed in a 'factual' manner instead of opinionated.

IMHO thought 'DIYGoKarts.com' forum was for help n assistance w/ ones own personal creation... not help w/ someone elses 'opinion' of how to do up your machine!?!

Yes, I understand that 'some' facts need to be expressed in a factual manner, or harm/damages will/may occure n due to someones 'fact' now this person needs to be hospitalized or pay out a load of $$$$, all because someones 'opinion' was given as 'fact'?!? I say the person supplying the wrong info, pay outra 'their' pocket n see how many times they reply their 'opinion' as a 'fact'!

Before anyone, reading this, thinks Im talking to/about them, sending me IMs wondering... All Im gonna say is, go into your history of replies... If the majority of them dont contain the phrases, or something of the sort, "Personally I..., IMO..., IMHO..., To me..., If it were me..."... Im probrobly posting this for you!

There have been acouple in the past that have done this n stopped the arrogance... But IMO, if you have nothing nice to say, as the French say... Femme la bouch(sp?). If you cant distinguish fact from opinion preview your replies, n if they dont contain any variation of the before mentioned phrases, add em... or dont reply! New ppl(noobs) many take an opinion as fact, out of ignorace.

A perfect 'example' of this would be... A statement making a VERY well known, bullet proof "item" n making a reply of it not being worth it... Femme la bouch!!!!

Is the item red ;) ?

Anyways..
I understand what you're trying to say...

But this is a forum.. and as in any forum;
users may be referred to as "Anonymous" with very few exceptions, we don't know each other personally..
And therefor the original rule of Anonymous apply:
"We are many"

So if any of us makes a mistake, a false statement or anything else, that might be considered harmful or even dangerous..
there are MANY of us to fix that up.
We can put things straight, we can clearify misconceptions about the value of a specific red item and so on and so forth.

Just chime in... ;)

New users will hopefully understand enough to read the entire thread instead of just one single post.
and judge based on the common sense.

'sid

btw it's ferme la bouche
femme would be women (hence female)
and bouche has an e at the end ;)

I have to echo what 'sid said........A forum is a place for opinions- nothing more. .....nothing less. ......perhaps some are backed up by more knowledge or experience. ......but as Alex so eloquently put it....it is up to the recipient's digression to decide the validity of the response. .......

Where I get into trouble is when someone asks for opinions and then comes back belittling the people trying to help and act like they know it all....

So......Thim.....to put it in perspective. ...we should always include IMHO.....but isn't that just a bit redundant?

Is there anything in this world that you are the absolute authority on and nobody else's opinion can override yours?

You'll have to ask my girlfriend. :surrender:

While I get the point of the thread.. if all it took was that one little argument to get under your skin, you are not ready for the rest of the big, vast, nasty Internet.

Or for my all time favourite, see attached or click the link :)

You make some good points, some very good ones. On the other hand... For pure fact, stay off the internet! (see exploding flywheel baloney).

Forums ARE about opinion, right or wrong (or socially acceptable). The flywheel thing is a good illustration of this. There's some BIG forums out there, that if you go on as a noob and so much as breathe a word about running a stock 'wheel on an ungoverned engine, they WILL crucify you publicly. Yet, maybe one member there has ever witnessed a flywheel failure- and it's probably because it was damaged. So what do you have? A consensus- an official, public opinion- that is presented as fact- that you are death waiting to happen if you do this. And they have NO problem confidently (arrogantly?) telling you this. Whaddya gonna do?

I'll tell you what you're gonna do- you're gonna be smart about it, and do your homework. When you join a forum, do some reading. It doesn't take very long to get a feel for things, and for people.

Now, that doesn't excuse bad attitudes or questionable behaviour on the part of forum members, not at all. But you've got to remember that everyone is human. Humans often act or re-act in ways that don't suit us. Humans have bad days. Humans misinterpret things we say, or the way we say them. Humans don't always choose their words carefully. Most of us are human.

From a management perspective, if someone gets a bit carried away, we try to rectify the problem. Sometimes it works out nicely, sometimes it doesn't. We're human too.

Hey I resemble the former. Oh wait thats my occupation. Professional .

Sorry for my french. This is not a place of opinion but a forum for hint tips and tricks on how to fix, build or create something. There are many ways to do the same job. So the next time someone tells you NO do it this way Listen and if it is better do it that way otherwise explain to him why your way is better. We learn new things daily NEVER be afraid to learn. Yes some people don't know what they are talking about at times, As someones signature says.

Ignorance, can be educated. Crazy, can be medicated. But there is NO cure for stupidity!!!

You cannot seperate opinion from fact.....everyone's facts are derived from and based on opinion. .....whether from actual experience. ....or second hand.....There are very few absolutes.....So almost everything is actually opinion.....and the value of a forum is to get more than one....so that information that is contradictory can be evaluated. .......based on logic.....
