Round & Round it goes, where it stops, nobody knows.

After sitting the engine & all the other stuff where it needed to be, something is nagging at me... that being, where the frame & front engine mount had to be welded, it's off just enough to make the Tec mounting a bit tricky and a bit too close for comfort... so I plopped the briggs on for a sec.

Yea, back we go, the other way.

It looks more clunky with the briggs, plus 2 of them I have.

Whatevs....

Well, can you mount the enormous Tec's airfilter while wait for the dual sprocket clutch?

Don't get me wrong, that airfilter is nice.. but there's just too much empty space on the kart as it is right now.

So as long as there's only one engine you need to fill that space somehow.

you could already mount both engines.. weld the exhaust and make an airfilter already;
and just carry the front one as a dead load for now.

Seeing this is part of the saga, I'm on to some of the wheels I have around here.

A while back, I visited a guy locally that seemed a bit interested but when I arrived, I found a pretty stoned guy who I swear thought it was the year 1969... and a back yard that was... oh... 50 feet by 80 feet and he'd thrown around like 6 old tires and called it a track.

It was just weeds and sticker bushes.

Needless to say, it didn't turn into much and to this day, there's still no running kart in his keeping but I did get out of there with some free stuff he tossed my way.

And here they are, 6 wheel halves... rusty but usable & chrome... and the bolt pattern... 3 and 1/16th. Yup.

Does anyone on this planet have any front hubs that fit this old stuff? Anyone ever heard of them?

Just curious. I'd love to put some rusty/chromes on one of these rides to complete a certain look.

You might want to think about some basic guarding for the chain(s) and exhaust; that is, unless you're already a southpaw.....

Yeah this came up just a while back. They aren't 3 1/16" (maybe 3 3/32"- IDK) -anyway, those are the hubs that "thugkart" had. At the time the OP of the thread was trying to find rims (IIRC).

Much has been said about turning rims 90° and re-drilling to a different bolt circle. I don't see why you couldn't do the same with the hubs w/ a drill and tap.......

Anyway- Sid probably remembers which kart thug was- I don't. ....

By any chance they might be 3 3/32" ?
then they're Carter Brothers rims..

It's close to impossible to find hubs aswell as rims.
All left are made of gold for some reason,
and it's cheaper to convert to 2 7/8" or something more common

I'm sure I'll figure out something... These are 5" rims.

I measured again, dead on center to center, 3 1/16

Probably just sit on my bench until I get back out there to see if he has the hubs. I think he did.

Also- measuring the way you have your tape in the pics is highly inaccurate. Slide your tape up until the 1" mark is at the top of the top hole and see where the 4 1/16" mark falls in relationship to the top of the bottom hole. Betcha a beer it doesn't line upexactly!

it's a stupid size in imperial aswell as in metric scales..

And someone came up with it,
so, there might have been a second knucklehead coming up with a size exactly as stupid and ever so slightly off the one we already know about

I actually like the blue color (not for the baroness of course)
Then again it's too much "two motors" somehow
I think you should see if you find something in your shed you can add to the shrouds to make it more "one giant engine".
I think a shared airfilter in the middle would be great.

Moving on:

Sid, this one's for you. In the past I've been known to "seemingly" pull parts out of thin air... and we've done that again.

Thanks for pointing out the "thug" kart wheels PO-PO!

I went-a-lookin... and when I saw those hubs, I was reminded of something I got a while back. They were these giant thick 6" aluminum wheels. They were just these weird old wheels I figured I'd just throw on a kart stand or something and the hubs are these beefy as sh1T things with 6 holes.

To the Shed!

What do ya know... the hubs are the exact size the holes are in these old rims. A tap with a rubber mallet and they're lined up as true as it gets. Just gotta drill 2 other holes & I think we'll be good and keep the original 4 hole look to them.

... and that frees up some wheels for me.

You're right, not perfect but with the center lining up perfectly, that's all I needed. It'll look good and run true. The kart rod way, using what ya got.

I know, 2 motors is almost killing it but we'll see how things go. I'll take your ideas here, sharing one filter and somehow linking them together will happen, when I find another shroud and a briggs updraft for the other one.

The blue is the shiny metalic blue on Bonneville Spirit... now back with the Tecumseh. LOL
