Ok, I'm a new guy to this Forum but not a new guy when it comes to building stuff. For example my Granddaughters Ranch Go Kart/ work truck I built for them off the top of my head a few years ago. As in "No Professional Plans"!
(I hope these pictures are big enough. If not I'll try and find the larger versions later)

I have this Yard Truck made by Brister in Louisiana and like any good side by side it's a Ranch Tool!
It's not 4 wheel drive, but it's all I need at my Ranch to get my work done with.

My two Granddaughters just love to come over and ride in Papa Truck. Heck they will even sit in it and watch the Shop TV like at a drive in. Here's my Brister!

They had so much fun with it but were too small to drive it by themselves. So being a Master Fabricator, I decided to build them one more their size. This is about 2/3 rds scale of the Brister and is powered by a Honda 4 HP 4 stroke engine with a Comet Torque Converter transmission. Initially it was so fast my Brister could not keep up with it so I slowed it down with a jack shaft. Now it runs about 10 mph instead of 45! It has a live axle but I had to remove one of the keys from the right side keyway because they were just too small to steer it with both rear wheels driving it. They don't get stuck very often anyway. And before you ask, it doesn't have suspension in it yet. I just keep the tires aired down.
Side View Corner View

It's made from 1 1/4" in .85 wall HREW Tubing that I welded it together with my Miller MIG. It is stout and will take a beating.

I decided to build this Ranch Kart tall, rather than a low go kart because of all the barbed wire fences we have around here and low hanging tree limbs. I wanted them inside a real cage! And this is how I protected them.

Another feature is the passengers side footwell is deep so an adult can sit on that side as we teach the girls the right way to drive. You just gotta watch that roll cage on the rough stuff because it is real close to an grown ups head. Ask me how I know! Good thing it is padded well.

I used my JD2 bender to bend the tubing for it. Oh and all tubing joints are fishmouthed. The bed is made of plywood covered in Epoxy paint on the outside and bed liner on the inside. The hood is MCM aluminum. The floorboard is also MCM and the engine cover panel under the seat is stainless steel.
(just had it laying around)

I sewed the seat covers (They picked out the flowered pattern) and I padded the seat myself. The pedals in the floor are made on a bracket that can be adjusted out on the floorboard for the girls as they get taller. The brake and gas feed controls are both cables with enough slack in them to expand without having to rebuild it as the girls grow.

The steering wheel, tires & wheels, pedals and spindles I bought at Northern Tool. And you'll notice it does have real automotive seat belts and heavy padding on the roll cage.

Off they go again!
You should see them take off across the property.

And sometimes they even haul a load of potting soil dirt for Grandmas Garden. I built the rear bed with a drop down tail gate, like a pickup, so it can be lowered when unlatched and if the load is even, the entire bed can be tilted up to be dumped by the bigger girl by herself. Just like my Yard Truck!

It was a fun build and I get a lot of smiles watching them tear across the west 40. They go so much I had to put a GMRS on the dash so I could call them back.

This Summer I'm thinking of building a pair of fat tired Mini Bikes for the two Grandsons for when they get bigger. (3 & 6) Theirs will be worthy of some Grand Adventures in the pastures herding of the cows into the corrals. Something like a 2/3rd scale one wheel drive Rokon!

Heck I've got an old Honda Trials Bike engine I may use to power a third slightly larger one for me one too!

Welcome to the forum. Your little buggy looks great. Good job. could we have some closer pics of the drive train?

When are you thinking of building the minibikes? You must start a build thread when you do, as I am sure the other members would like to see your skills at work

Since I've really never taken any close up pictures of the running gear that's a good suggestion. I'll post some up later today.

The kart has a solid suspension but I did design it so it could have some built in later. But later never came.

Speaking for myself, my internet connection is limited; 3rd party sites like Photobucket are pretty much useless for me. Could you please use the thumb nail format that most of us prefer here? That way, we have the option of looking at your pictures in detail without using up precious bandwidth (chewed up by all the advertizing, etc.) just to see what you are talking about...

You could have the most interesting build in the world, but if I have to deal with all the third party social media crap, I'll never waste my time trying to look at it.

To set your mind at ease, the PB pics are no bigger which would actually be even more annoying for you...

:funnypost: Thanks Tony; I got just as far as seeing it was PB and quit because I knew it was going to take several minutes for the ads to load, and even more than that for any actual pictures came thru.....:mad2: :mad2: :censored:

Here's a few more pictures I found in my Computer.
That is their dad riding with them the first time.
And the Girls posing with their new toy.
You can see the comparison between the Brister and the Ranch Kart!

I just realized that the other pictures are in Thumbnails already, so that won't work.
And I was looking forward to showing off the two Kart's together.

Got my weekend interrupted so I didn't get any close ups. But I'll try again as soon as it warms up a little more where I can get out and open up the shop.

Thanks! They enjoy it every visit. Been thinking of putting on some suspension to make the ride smoother. But they have so much fun with it now it's hard to spend the cash on something they won't stay off of as it is. The rear suspension is a no brainer but the front I was going to build a old timey straight axle with coil springs over the shocks.

Well the pictures on my computer screen come up normal size.
So, I can't see them small when I post them.
Must be a Photbucket thing!

Plus I'm a new guy. Each Forum I join has it's idiosyncrasies!

I figured they naturally posted all pictures up small here. My Bad!

But, I've got it down now.

Australia? Shouldn't you be going to bed?

Oops! I see he's gone now that I post this up.

:kewlsmiley:Thanks for updating with pic's we can use!!!:kewlsmiley:

We've got members from all over, with internet connection quality to match. Just to bring you up to speed, others started a poll on what format worked the best for photo's for members, and the thumbnail format was the clear preference; The thumbnails actually let you take a glance at the photo, and then you can decide whether or not you want to take the time to download the higher resolution one.

As for your ongoing project; now that I can see it, I like what I see!! Keep us in the loop!!!

 :cheers2:  Pat :auto:

Thanks, I actually like the Thumbnail setup you have here better than the other Forums I hang out at. I'm a regular member on about 6 daily, and about 15 total during the week.
Yea, I'm retired and when the weather is too cold or hot to work in the shop I hang out on my laptop. But I gotta warn you I am a terrible speller!

I have a lot of Internet Friends all over the World. Some of them I've actually met and ridden Motorcycles with. I'm also into 4X4 rock crawlers!

I'm a night owl :D

Have you read? this?

I have now. Thanks for bird dogging that for me.
Makes things so much easier!

Night Owl!
I worked Night shift for several years then one day made the mistake of telling my Supervisor I preffered it and that I made more money in overtime than the day shift. So he moved me to day shift to spread the wealth. My Co Workers were pissed to have to start night shift duties. They were just fine with me raking in all the overtime.

Sometimes Corporate decisions just don't make sense. Do they?

I'll try and roll the Kart outside and get some closeups of the running gear for ya'll. I have never really posted up many pictures of it. And only have a few from the build. And they were taken with a really crappy camera. Hence the thumbnails in the first batch I think.

More!
Not having a lot of luck uploading these.
Been trying to upload them since last Friday!
I wanted to have both beds tilted for the pictures but the Big one has the sprayer tank in it's bed full of weed killer.
Here you can see the 4 HP Honda motor.

Some more! Since these stuck!
Here's some shots of the engine, transmission, jackshaft and sprockets.
I had to put in a Jack Shaft to gear it down. It would run almost 45 mph before I geared it down.
Way too fast for the girls. Now when the Boys grow into it I may gear itr back up. But, then it would need suspension wouldn't it? My Oldest Grandson is a Daredeveil. He has no fear!

Nice setup! What did you use to make your chain tensioner? How well does it work?

This will make you slap your head! The chain tensioner is a water pump belt tensioner off a Ford EFI 460 engine. It's wide, flat and holds just enough tension to keep the chain tight enough but not too much. Partly because of how I mounted it to lower the tension it has on the chain.
I had a few laying around. SO I used one!

Hmmmmm. Nice isn't it how you figured that out. Seems like he filled out his profile. HINT HINT....

Poboy, do you realize that if you cut through Boyd your are less than 20 miles from me????? Give or take!

I like seeing where members are located in the World. I grew up an Air Force Brat, so talking to people from other Countries has always been a natural thing to do. We lived in some neat places!

Plus I'm one of those Friendly Texans :2guns: that will talk to people while standing in line just to keep from getting bored standing in line.
