Any body from Maine keep your eyes open for this thing. It will be a different color, but it will still look the same . Look at this pic, and build thread closely for distinct marks or one-off type modification. Anythiing that sets this kart apart.....

Wait a minute... "Near as you can tell"? How did this friend have it stored? Did he not notice it stolen? Did he not inform you immediately?

that's a shame.. within a few weeks the kart has been totally disassembled, repainted, the parts have already been sold and it's running (now black) with a different motor on now silver or white wheels.
You'll never be able to recognize it even if it's at your front door :(

A few days is not a problem, one week is hard.. a few weeks nearly impossible...

One chance though:
There's a guy on CL (maine area) selling a go kart (no further info than that)
asking for 900$ near portland... (posted 24 days ago)
70 miles.. not impossible.
Ask him for a pic and see what you got

Also, check all classifieds on a daily basis on the lowest restricting search terms (maybe just kart for example) and see what comes up..
sometimes you'll only find the engine popping up and can trace it down to the one you want to inform about the rules of personal property ;)

:wai: How well do you know this friend? There might be some something fishy going on. As in the time frame. Seems awful funny that your friend did not know it was missing.

I'm not questioning your buddy's integrity in any way, but : How long was it outside? Was it visable to a casual observer? Who visited your friend while it was there and might have seen it? Was anything else taken? Had he ever been robbed before? Too many things don't add up...This is where I'd be asking buddy about his homeowners insurance.

Hmmmmm, and ONLY yours was taken? Me thinks you got #@!?%(..... You need to go knock on your buddys noggin..... Sounds like he sold it for extra xmas cash to me..... Y just yours? How,if it was "hidden" "out of sight".....? Is he a friend? Or just someone you know? There is a difference.... Im not one to instigate, BUT this dont sound right. It takes 30 minutes to remove ,diss assemble ,clean,re assemble, and re install. I did 3 dirt bikes yesterday while at work, and it only took an hour and fifteen minutes. Made $$cash money$$ and the shop manager is happy..... I think your "buddy" Wednesday-ed you.... (hump day.... read between the lines..... ) ##{ i just made that up}## lol

Slow down Jim- he didn't say it was the only one taken yet......

Other than that- you guys have pretty much posted the same thing that was in my mind. And if indeed- the other karts are still there- it just makes a fishy situation smell worse.

But to me- It's not about being buddies or homeowners insurance. It's pretty cut and dried: I left my kid's kart in your care- replace it. It's how the law will apply in small claims court. I don't have any friends that I feel close enough to that I will accept the burden of loss of my property due to their negligence.,or worse- them possibly taking advantage by being party to the crime to some degree.

I'm a little careless with my stuff at times- with other people's- I'm twice as careful- mainly for this very reason. How's that old saying go- with freinds like that-..........

This reminds me of an episode of Go-Kart Alley and the time when I let a "friend" work on one of my karts one time and never saw it again.

Seriously though...situation sucks! I've been carless earound my place but we usually never have any problems. Had theives casing our neighborhood once a few years ago...got shotguns racked on them 3 houses in a row! Didn't even know until me and neighbors started sharing the same story. One lady shot marbles out of a paintball gun through her fence at an unkown who beat a hasty retreat.

Not an actual "friend". More of an automotive buddy. he has worked on my sister's truck, my wife's truck, and my kids' 4 wheeler. Never any problems before. And, yes, my kart apparently is the only thing missing. Fishy? Yes. Hard to believe? Oh yes. Why the change of character? No clue. Pissed off? Indeed. Confronted him the other day, and he claims that it was there before all the snow fall (being left outside angers me as well). He was going to check with "some people" Pretty sure this is a lost cause at this point.
