Hello everyone,

I am from Brazil and looking for some information to build an entire kart with motorcycle engine.

I already have 2 chassis here to use as model or to start playing until the REAL project comes to life... :wai:

Hope you guys can help me with materials and other stuff to make it come true! :cheers2:

See you!

What size engine? What type of kart?

There a lots of builds here that use bike engines of varying sizes, from tame to just plain crazy so, I'm sure you'll find something

nice to have you here. have any pics of what your working with?

I do not have pics with me right now, but what we want to do is between a 300cc (2 cylinders) os 600cc (4 cylinders) motorcycle engine. As soon as we start building the project, I will create a thread to post the news, doubts and pics :wai:
I am planning that with my brother and 2 other friends, our main doubt is to choose the engine size because of its price around here... :2guns:

I am starting to draw some things here as I get information about materials, chassis dimensions and other stuff... I am getting used to the forum and searching threads, but I'd appreciate if you guys could help me with some links to these informations

Thanks guys!

You didn't answer the important question: What type of kart? Will it be a sprint/shifter, a larger street kart or an off road mini buggy?

Where do you intend to drive it? Street, parking lot, bush trails/offroad...

 sorry about that...
We intend to drive it around parking lots, tracks (mainly asphalt)... it is supposed to be a racing kart, but a little bit larger to fit the motorcycle engine.
I already read some things around here saying that a 600cc motorcycle engine would be more a "tire eating" kart than a racing kart, what is your opinion about that?

I am back with some questions... :wai:

1) Does anybody have Honda CBR 600 engine's dimensions? (I'd need at least its fixation points distances to start drawing up the chassis around it)
I tried to find it around the internet but had no luck...

2) What's the most recommended material to use for the chassis? AISI 4130 would be the best, right? (easy to weld, good tensile strength)

well I don't have the measurements either, but I have a source for some CAD files (3d models of the engine)
with a good cad program you can read the measurements from there.. it should work..

[EDIT]
I downloaded the OU model and imported the smaller iges to Autodesk Inventor just to see if I can read any measures.

And it looks promising:

here's the side view measurments for the mounting holes (all in mm)
the grid is 2x2 cms just for reference ;)

I cannot verify the values, but it sounds plausible enough to try...

After a few weeks away because of the holidays around here, we got our hands on the kart we will restore before we start working on the "REAL" project...

As you can see by the rust, this kart was "abandoned" for about 15 years and, as I said, we are restoring it to have some fun until we have the 600cc's project ready.

We had some problems to disassemble the rear axle from the chassis because of the brake's components... Any suggestions on how to disassemble these components? (mainly the brake disc from the axle)

(PS: This chassis will NOT be used on the 600cc project because of obvious reasons... :lolgoku: )

Thanks!

Have you got some closer pics of the brake assembly so that we can help you to disassemble it?

IMO, I would go with a 300cc engine in the other kart you are thinking of. 600cc is a lot of power

There should be two (or, sometimes, 4) bolts that hold the halves of the caliper together around a bracket; remove those bolts, remove the caliper & the axle should be clear to lift out... once you remove the bearing cassette bolts...
