I seem to remember reading somewhere a purple plate WKA flathead on meth is about the same as a box stock clone on gas. Close enough that some tracks let them run together.

I think I'm gonna have to make a trip to Harbor Freight soon. Sounds to me like a clone is the way to go. Those chainsaw videos are crazy!!! Back to my question though... will a 2 stoke motor mount up the same on a go kart as a 4 stoke does or would certain things need to be changed around ?

I just noticed that I wrote "stoke" instead of "stroke" in my last post... that's just pure laziness. what would be a good cc in a 2 stroke to put on a kart ? something that'll get to around 50 mph maybe...

and about how much money would is cost to turn a Briggs into a "purple plate WKA flathead on meth" compared to what a Honda Clone would cost ? also, how fast do you guys think a 49cc 2 stroke would push an average kart ?

If its just one of those cheap jap 49cc engines, i don't think it will push it very fast, 10-15 mph. Now if you were to get say a Liquid KX80 engine from a dirtbike, that's a whole different story. Them 80cc's will spin 19,000 RPM and crank out 25+ hp.

wow, that's pretty sweet. would you have to make one into a shifter kart though like a bike ?

And why do they run restrictor plates? Just to make up a whole bunch of different groups and try to keep it fair? And how large are the hole's in the restrictor plates? and do they have a cut in the bottom to stop fuel pooling?

gotcha... I guess I'm all out of questions for the moment. By the way, I ordered one of the UNIfilters that was mentioned in another thread. it's suppose to arrive the beginning of next week or sooner... I made my own adapter for it from part of a pellet can... if it don't work, then I'll get the adapter. is there a good way to fashion your own chain guard or is there a good place to get one cheap that anyone knows of (guess I wasn't out of questions after all) ? also, I plan of getting one of the billet flywheels eventually. I found out something cool today... I sell steel for a living (plate and bar), and I found out that ARC Racing buys our material constantly in 4-1/8" bar to make their crankshafts... it is my company's proprietary grade of steel. I just thought that was kind of cool. I wish that I was their salesman. lol.

I think since the clone aftermarket is still in its infancy, that there's lots of room to improve upon. Stock B/S flatty vs clone? Clone makes more hp right out of the box from the same cc's.

I have one of there 3" stroke crankshaft's. IMO much better than the Clement's one we snapped.

We compete in an event called the RACV Energy Breakthrough-basically about fuel efficient vehicles. Our section is a 24 hour time trial. We are allocated 3l of fuel, to which we add out 2 stroke oil. We use one of those "cheap jap" 49cc engines with a specially designed expansion chamber that one of our sponsors helped us with. Our car is good for 130km/h, and revs to 12,000. We re-jetted the carb, and ported it, and we get some pretty amazing acceleration and speed out of it.

MORE INFO:
Fixed gear from engine to rear wheel through a 1 way clutch (permanently engaged, won't allow car to roll backwards), 12 on the clutch, 35 on the axle. At 12,000 rpm we would **technically** reach 480km/h but thats beyond the design limits of our vehicle. Aerodynamically, it wouldn't be stable. It's a hybrid vehicle, pedal/motor. combined top speed would be around 150km/h but when you get past 70km/h, pedaling disturbs the balance of the vehicle causing it to swerve. It's based on the Greenspeed tourer model.
Only picture I have on hand, with one of our riders, and the canopy off. These are the fairings we use: http://www.dhenterprises.com.au/index.html (picture 1).

The "cheap jap" engines are not as bad as you would think. I do acknowledge that they don't have the balls to push a heavy steel go kart, however.

Braden.
