Well from shed sitting to sitting at friend's house being competely torn apart. This is my little rebuild project.

Took a 4 hour trip to pick it up. Stuffed the entire kart into the back of my truck. I got it to my friend's house and we pulled the wheels and rims off the following morning.

We finally got the motor off. This thing has been run hot a few times and it has been left out in the elements for a LONG TIME!!

As I said earlier the carb is shot and so is the gas tank.

So my first project will be stripping ll the old paint and the rust off the frame and then sanding it down really well and then going back over it with a primer. Any ideas for the best kind to use? I was gonna go get a few cans of Kraylon or Rustoleom.

I'm also going to be saving up for new rims cause these are shot.

And I gotta save up for a new engine cause I'm scared that this one is past it's prime. The piston walls barely had any oil left on them. So right now I'm looking at a Predator engine from Harbor Freight for 119.99 that has 212CC(Dunno what it is in hp)

The Predator 212cc is rated at 6.5hp, may be a bit more, or a bit less... With a coupon, you can usually get one for under $100 or, better still, wait until they go on sale for $99, go in with a coupon & pick one up for $80.

A lot of guys suggest POR15 for rust prevention...

Looks like a good project, have fun :D

The guy who gave it to me was given it from his boss who had it sitting in a shed for I think it was 3 years. He was going to rebuild it but got interested in another kart and saw my ad on Craigslist for a non-working kart. So he gave me a call and offered to give it to me.

But yeah projects are called as they are for a reason :D
Right now it needs new rims, new tires(I can almost near pull the tires apart by hand). I need a new brake strap(Mine is still good but it is worn),The motor as I said was run hot a few times and te piston wall was bone dry. It is a miracle but it still has compression.

I do know I also need a fuel tank cause the one I have is rusted out pretty badly on the inside.

get some nuts and bolts and stick them in the gas tank and radial them in the tank to nock the rust off and thin get some toilet bowl cleaner it will get that rust out don't leave the toilet bowl cleaner in the tank to long it will eat the tank up. 10 15 min tops.

Did you not notice he had a wadded tank? The nuts & bolts trick won't work...

He is referring to the sponge inside the tank.

The nuts & bolts won't be able to move around inside the tank.

I kept reading the word wrong did. I kept reading it as waaded for some reason.

If you want you can search my threads and look at my build album for some reference. Your kart is essentially the same Kart as the one I have except the front end. I would try to salvage the wheels. Mine were in really bad shape also and was able to get away with buying two new ones. Do you have the jackshaft setup that came with the kart?

Do any of us know what we are doing?

Anyways bought three cans of primer so we can get sanding it down in the next few days if it warms up abit.

While we are still talking about ghat wadding, I'd be hesitant to use that bowl cleaner if it's that powerful. You may play hell trying to make sure its completly washed out of that wadding.

Can't you yank that out of the tank?

Right now ontop of sanding I'm also building up the funds for both the new engine and trying to locate a set of non-split rims if at all possible.

Good luck with your build. It doesn't have to take a bunch of money to build one of these things. I've got little in our build. You learn to ask a bunch of questions. Our hunk of junk started out with everything rusted in place. It took a cut off wheel on a dremel tool and a lot of penetrating oil to make things move. Our little car is tons of fun with our Predator motor. It will absolutely fly.
