Hi there!
Decided it was time to start another project, and this one will have wheels and a motor!

I've been wanting to have a go kart and this one came up for a good price on CL.

I'd like to know if anyone can identify this go kart.

I took the motor to get it serviced, its a Honda GX160 5.5hp, it was idling too high and rough so hopefully the mechanic can get it to purr.

I ordered some new brake bands, and a clevis yoke end for one side of the brake system, one side has the rod & yoke end, the other one is missing... also i need to ordered the linkage cable for the accelerator.

Welcome to the forum. I see that you haven't filled out a profile yet.You may want to do that when you get a chance. If you post anywhere else no one will know where you are from. :thumbsup:

Profile updated :D
I'm kind of curious if anyone knows if this go kart has a rear differential, or if something is broken, lol...

with the rear off the ground i can spin either wheel freely, but no transfer of motion to the clutch and i can also spin the centrifugal clutch and not get any motion on the axle, but if i spin the wheels in reverse then it spins the whole assembly... if that makes any sense...

i'll try and add some pics from my phone.

any idea what kind of performance i can expect from the 5.5 honda with a 215 lb person on it...not that i weight 215 just you know, hypothetically speaking :D

I'm not sure if it's a diff or some tyre of locking hub: Each wheel can spin forward independently but, by turning the centre, both axles lock & turn until you hit a corner, at which point the outside wheel will speed up & all power will be on the inside wheel

i can also spin the centrifugal clutch

:huh: Why is there a cent clutch in there, you have a torque converter driven on the jackshaft, I would assume there's a driven on the engine...

Being that the kart itself is on the larger end of the scale, I wouldn't expect it to break any records but, it won't be horrible either; it all comes down to gearing & there's an endless list of mods you can do to gain more power, some simple & cheap/free, others more difficult & a bit on the expensive side...

Thanks Fabroman!

hopefully i get the engine back from the mechanic sooner than later so i can get it all assembled...
I ordered brake bands off ebay, hopefully i guess correctly, i assumed that they are 5" bands...

I'll do some more reading on power mods, but more than likely i'll realize that i need a bigger motor :D
lol... and then a cart with suspension...

lol.. my wife thinks i'm nuts, i'm always doing some sort of project!

That was my first guess, too; because of the brush guards;
but I havent found any Carter that looks like the one above yet.
The carter you linked, is completely different except for the brush guard.

The main-frame is closer to a yerf dog, but still I haven't seen any like the one above;

and from the side there is also some ken bar features... I don't know.
That's really hard to tell (for me)

The tuning fork shaped piece is a clevis. They come in many differnt sizes; so if you have the linkage rod, make sure you find out what threads they are before buying the clevis. Ace Hardware and Do-It-Best should have what you are looking for.
