how to deal with threaded motor shaft?

looks like the motor I got (for free) has a reverse threaded 1/2 x 13 shaft on it...

what are my options for mounting a sprocket?

You could mill down the threads on a lathe or something. But you still need to cut a keyway for a sprocket.

There may be a space issue as well.

I thought that, but dont have a lathe...
the main part of the shaft is 5/8", I found some 10T sprockets for a #35 chain on McMaster for that size, was thinking of just cutting off the threaded part and possibly welding the sprocket to the main part of the shaft or grinding it down on one side to make it a D shaped shaft...
I tried to find a threaded sprocket, but dont think they exist..

That thought did cross my mind because it is reverse thread, but I figured you could find a personal preference at McMasterCarr.

Cut it off, and file a flat for a setscrew and carry on.

that sounds like a plan... just ordered the sprockets and chain

and yes it is a treadmill motor, and a free one at that
90V 21A, about 2.5HP...
but im only going to power it with about 48V max and see what she can do
was told 90V isnt very safe on a gokart
