I am going to be building a gokart for my Grandson and have purchased the Predator 212cc engine, horizontal shaft.

The throttle is very stiff on that engine such that to use the existing linkage connected to a gas pedal would be pointless. Are there modifications that are being done to this throttle linkage to get this engine to work with a gas pedal where the throttle will move freely?

Many thanks!

The nut holding the throttle down can be loosened a little so that it moves more easily

i have gone to the local hardware store and gotten nylon washers instead of the steel ones and dont clamp the nut so tight.

It's just a matter of backing the nut off a bit, and applying a return spring to the lever that will always pull it back into the the idle position when the remote throttle is released.

Excellent, thanks. Where and how is the return spring attached?

Here is a return spring for your throttle. I just bought a bulk random spring pack, it had a longer one. Just drill a small hole in the throttle arm attach the spring to that and just hook it to the fan cover.

There's no "right" place to attach a return spring, per se. As long as it is capable of pulling the throttle lever back to the idle position. I also highly recommend a return spring at the pedal, too.

I added a throttle return spring to one of the 2 holes in the arm where the cable end is attached. (see above photo in earlier post) The spring pull will be opposite the force applied by the throttle cable. No geometry problems. I connected the other end to a chain guard. If you do not have a chain guard make a simple bracket that attaches to one of the tapped holes beside the shaft. Make the bar tall enough so the spring is level when connected to that bar.

Here's mine; works fine for me...

Many thanks, greatly appreciated. There's been a change though. The 212cc Predator that I had was DOA. Harbor Freight made an even swap for the 346cc engine. BIG. In any event, what is the purpose of them providing the "Power Takeoff" diagram as found in the manual?

Thanks,

Lyman
