My steering rack has turned up and and is being sized up for mounting, had to order a set of M10 x 1.25 taps to cut new threads in the tie rods as they need to be cut down to fit !

Got the buggy resting on it's wheels now, which makes it easy to move about the shed while I've been putting in some more lights. Also been playing around a bit while waiting for some bits and think I've come up with a pretty good feeling position for the steering wheel, might grab some more pipe from local steel shop and weld it up over the weekend :wai:

Made up a mount for the Brake calliper today out of some 2" angle that used to be part of a gate at the side of our house, glad I held onto that for 9 years

Calliper is a simple single piston trailer unit, heavy but simple.

Also decided to fix up those holes that I made way to big ! just couldn't handle looking at them any longer, still loving the new Mig.

Just realised that there is only a few weeks to go, time to pull finger and get it finished ! only have pedals, floor pan, putting the engine in to go. Been off task for a couple of weeks with being sick other things including getting this old Riley RME back together & ready for sale, the things been in my family since 1986 waiting to be restored, finally admitted to myself that I might not get around to it : (

Righto ! Last update while build off is still running,

Brake pedal pretty much done, go pedal is built but I still need to mount it. Brake line has been made but needs to bent to fit.

Decided that fitting a seat belt was a good idea and plus I scored a good 5 pt harness to use.

Also mounted the fuel tank, it's a 12L and only just fit in the frame behind the seat, could have mounted it high up but wanted to keep CofG as low as I still can

Dropped my axle of to get some keyways cut, turns out I have a Go kart factory nearby ! would love to get some photos to post, the place is chock full of Old school metal working gear.

Anyway build will continue post "Kumqwat" !

Yeah, unfortunately not : ( worked every night last week on it (even Friday till 11 pm) fallen victim to the same thing that plagues all my projects

"It always takes twice as long and costs twice what I think it will"

Anyway will continue as I want it finished ( too many 1/2 projects in the past ) and I have a new project in the wings ??? scored a Deckson Mini bike last week looks complete except engine ! exactly the same as the clutchless, brakeless death trap I had 20 yrs ago !
Cheers JK

You have A project in the wings, I HAVE 4! :lolgoku:
c

Ha, Ha, I don't count all the projects in my head ! Feeling inspired by your Ausex and Kelly Wood's Guerilla tactics to have another go again next year (secretly stockpiling parts) if the contest is run again. Had the front 2/3 of a vintage (60's?) go kart years ago had the coolest front end I've ever seen, I've looked at stacks of vintage kart photos and never seen another like it. Would love to build a similar frame but as a low slung / enduro style Kart

Well contest is all but over and I'm still screwing around, with the pressure of the build off easing I had a review and come to some conclusions

I realised a way back that my initial 6.5 hp clone engine purchase was highly optimistic, and as the weight of the kart increased unlikely to be able to "pull the skin of a custard" So instead of remaking the entire kart of welded aluminium .025" tube and balsa wood I decided to power up

With a small injection of cash I decided to take the plunge and buy a bigger engine (15hp) & clutch (Tav 40) as well as beefed up sprocket #41 55T to give this machine a halfway descent chance of actually going ok. I got the Tav 30 for $120 Aud which is a steal, the bloke was a legend as he drove it to Brisbane for me so I could get it shipped to me with my regular work shipments (he'd bought it for 6 wheeler rebuild but it wouldn't fit) now waiting on small sprocket and chain etc to complete the drive train .
Cheers all JK

Guys, sorry typo it's a 40 series (clone) Not sure of the make of the motor ? Power star sticker I think, might be made by Loncin but not 100% sure

Yep $120, was just about to buy one of Ebay for $200 when I thought i'd search Gumtree because the guy in WA who sells them sometimes advertises them on Gumtree as well. Anyway this one came up from a privete seller in QLD . He'd bought it for a 6 wheeler ATV resto but then discovered his engine output shaft was 1-1/4" the bloke even delivered to Brisbane at the end of his night shift ! he thought he was going to be stuck with it forever ! good timing for me because I used the $80 I saved for a Jack shaft and bearings etc.
