starter generator for kiddy cart

i got this old genrator starter.....whats the thaught on using it on a go cart......would it hold up on continual use.....
i would try a speed controller ......
thinking of using a 10 or 12 tooth sprocket...it has a 72 tooth sprocket on a 12 inch tire.......

I don't know about using a starter/generator. I built an off road go-kart for my son many years ago with an old delco generator for its motor. I had a rheostat controlling the field current for a speed control. The generator was belted to an old tiller gear box that had a 9.5 to 1 reduction. the Pulleys reduced it another 2.5 or so to 1. It had 18 x 9.5 lawn tires on the rear and it would go through mud filled ditches and high weeds with no problem. Kinda slow though. Max speed was a fast walking speed. Continuous duty on that generator was no problem.

You had a really low gear ratio. That is why it was so slow, but powerful
