The FIRST thing I have a problem with, is the interviewer TWICE in the first 20 seconds says "1976"... What???

Yeah, it's sad. you know what else is sad? My generation of Canadians probably knows more about American history than these idiots. For some reason when we were schoolchildren, we learned a LOT more about US history than our own. Wow.

So, while we're on the topic- yesterday was Canada Day (July 1)- So happy Canada Day to all us Canucks out there, and a happy upcoming Independence Day to all our American brethren!

Seeing the context of the rest of the vid, I think that may have been deliberate...

Even I know that, as well as Australian history but, it's sad how many Aussies don't know their history either...

Ironically, I know a lot of indigenous Australians who celebrate Australia day, which is a bit like native Americans celebrating the 4th of July...

I believe you're right. I typed that before watching the whole thing.

But is your educational system to blame?

That's bent... I can't see our native people being too happy about the concept either.

I saw something on TV today, on the news. about some guy saying america was a "white country" talking about the 4th of july..

Being white - I totally called up the TV station today and requested a follow up interview with the guy they where interviewing.....

I want to know what makes america "white nation"?? and how it affects the 4th.

While this wack job was - of course a wack job. he did make a point...

Its okay to have gay pride.
its okay to have black pride.
its okay to have latino pride.

but as soon as you have white pride. You become a racist wetback redneck.. I agree with that statement so much... it was unbelievable, I almost stood up and started clapping.

Good point. That's ok- hetero pride celebrations would be a snore anyway. We'd all be standing around in jeans, t-shirts, and ballcaps, drinking beer, BS'ing, and starting at hooters...

That's pathetic

Where do they find these people

To be fair I don't know that either
But I'm Aussie
And my memory for numbers is rubbish
Can't even remember my sisters birthday
Or my phone number

I went to one of the better boarding schools in Australia
And I was quite disappointed in what exactly they taught in history

We did a lot on medieval Europe and all those usual events
Also a lot on American history
But little on Australian history
And we learned absolutely nothing on indigenous history
Well we learnt nothing on the aboriginals

Not a word usually associated with redneck. I grew up in New Mexico, PM me for the real meaning of that. :cheers2:

I do agree though but unfortunately our society is full of idiots who can't think for themselves.

As for the education thing, I'm an American and I know the story. It's taught in school over and over and over. Interviews like this throw out all the people who answer correctly and just focus on the stupid ones. That's why people think Americans are so dumb, everyone wants entertainment. Smart people are boring apparently.

Not to mention the fact that more than half of the babies born in the US now are NOT WHITE.

You have no idea.

I'll have to disagree. My mom has been a teacher for nearly 30 years, and either she has the dumbest students the world has ever seen, or we, as a society, are screwed. I'm thinking the latter. No, wait. Both.

D, you have to remember, when dealing with individuals with that type of mindset, they refuse to acknowledge the reality of the way the world is; all they care about is the "WAY IT SHOULD BE". And for the record, the opinion's of anyone else means less than nothing to them. We are apparently supposed to somehow alter the space/time continuum into what they dream of (irregardless of the fact that it would be even worse off than the world we actually live in.....).

You know, he might have a point (smart people, I mean; your mother's refusal to give up deserves a separate Hero thread all her own....).

As for smart people being boring, how many smart people (comparatively) have their final words recorded as "Hey guys, watch this!!!" or "Buckle up; I want to try something."

All of us are potential Darwin candidates (I'm really curious how ToyStory earned himself the rank of talent scout), the chances of actually earning the award get a lot higher the closer you get to the shallow end of the gene pool......:surrender:

Me and Darwin are good buddies. I'm constantly on the viewfinder end of some REALLY dumb ideas. I'm constantly shooting business his way.

Viewfinder, or object of the front lens? Are you sure you haven't confused them again? :bannana::stir::devil2::devil2:

Sight, or barrel? Yeah- I think I can tell one end from the other. My relationship with Darwin is of the long-distance variety. Ain't met him personally, ain't gonna either. Was born at night, but not last night!

Oh, I completely agree.. there are some dumb kids (yes, i know that's not nice to say).

I can specifically remember several throughout the years that just didn't care to learn anything. I'm sure some of it is the parents fault but you can't blame them for everything.

I can also remember some teachers that were sub-par. There was a recent video on Youtube of a dude giving his teacher all sorts of hell, he very well illustrated what some of the problems are with certain teaching styles.

As a father of 3 now I do my best to show the kids that learning is fun. You can't just teach them stuff, you have to show them how they can use it to do cool things. That's a bit harder with American history but it's still possible.

As an experiment i'll ask my oldest son (14) to answer a bunch of American history questions. I'm actually curious how much he knows. Will report back with the results. :)

Washington, Adams, Jefferson.. (then I'm lost until 1809) Lincoln, Johnson, Grant (some other) ... Garfield... Nah, I can't list em all anymore, but maybe from post WWII again with Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, uhmm forgot, Reagan, Bush (sen.), Clinton, Bush (jr.), Obama.

Nope, that's odd, more than I expected from learning those in school more than twenty years ago, but less than one would call knowledge ;)

So, I made a fool of myself.. NEXT!

[EDIT]
Ford... wasn't it Ford then Carter??

Well, but shows like that exist all over the tv-planet (maybe not in china or north korea :D)
And they always cut away the correct answers and only show the stupid fellows, just to have a good laugh.
Unfortunately, you can tell how many stupid people are around these days only by looking at the time it took to shoot the video. (you can tell sometimes by the shadows ;))
The time it takes to find a good handfull of idiots decreases every year :(
