I bought an Invader rolling chassis and the guy threw in a free Honda 5.5 HP engine with a 5/8 shaft. Then I was talking to another guy who said that there's no good 5/8" clutch so instead I should just buy a predator 212cc engine from Harbor Junk. Does anybody have any experience with this? I would prefer not to buy a new engine. On the engine that I have the engine is threaded at the end. Thanks in advance!

It's threaded on the end like this, but aren't all engines like that?

Thanks

No, that's something different, and a definite new one to me. Most standard engines sold for the North American market have a drilled and tapped hole in the end of the crank..... That's not to say your unit won't work, we're just going to need more information on your engine.

1] What the actual dia. of the straight section is.

2] How long that section is.

3] What is the dia. and thread pitch of the threaded end.

To the rest of the folks on the forum, please chime in if I've missed/ forgotten anything.....

If that's truly 5/8" (be sure), you should not have a problem putting a 5/8 Clutch on it (they can be had), or as suggested above, get a steel bushing with a 5/8" ID and 3/4" OD, and a 3/4" clutch. In either case, you may have to do a little work to deal with the keyways.

One final option that may be worth your while, is to shop for a junk Honda or clone engine with a 3/4" straight keyed shaft, and swap crankshafts.
