i'm building a go kart as a summer project and using it as a way to learn how to weld for work related purposes

Welcome to the forum Sean. I'd be learning to weld first, then practice on a kart frame; think about it, do you really want to put your a$$ on the line when it's inches from the hard, unforgiving pavement?

Welcome to the forum. Practice welding on some scrap steel before you get into making a frame. It won't take you too long to get the hang of it

Again, what type of welder do you have access to? For the record, any process that uses an electric arc to generate the heat for welding is an "Arc'" type welder.

Do you mean Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick)(AC or DC)? Gas Metal Arc Welding (Mig and/or Flux Core)? How about Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (Tig)? All are doable, and all can be used to build a kart; you just need to know what the limitations are for each process.

Gas Welding and Braze Welding traditionally use Oxygen/Acetylene for fuel to generate the heat needed for welding. They are both viable types to build a kart with, but require totally different equipment and techniques compared to any of the electrical Arc processes.

yes i do mean shielded metal welding and the one i have at home is ac not 100% sure about the welder/ generators i'll be using at work and thank you for bearing with my noobness
