First kart project.

I feel I should put in my 2 cents. As a kid with 3 karts and a hovercraft under his belt I have something to say. I understand you can't get a welder but that's no reason to go suicidal. Do you have a hacksaw and a drill? Why is a bolt together steel cart not an option but one made of popsicle sticks is?

I really dont know where to start with a steel frame.

As a teacher, I like your enthusiasm! You hear what everyone is saying but you're not listening. That's the way kids are. However, PLEASE re-design the frame if you insist on wood, which I know you do. There is a reason that the floor joists in a house are turned on end. It can support 10 times the weight. Turn your 2x4's on their side!!! And when you take it for its maiden voyage, GO VERY SLOW!!!

It is not common sense to know which design will work better without myself actually trying it.

I must disagree. Can you imagine just how technologically delayed the earth would be, if we were not willing to rely on each other's research and development? There would still be Hindenberg explosions on a regular basis. Clockmakers would be dropping dead of radiation poisoning for hundreds of years to come. Widespread Asbestos use would continue to kill folks with Mesothelioma for generations to come. Heck- You wouldn't even have that engine to try to convert, because after the first engine designer dropped dead of CO poisoning, the next guy would have to start all over again.

You do have a great point here. I dont know how to say it effectively but i basically want to experiment with different designs and go with the best one.

Dude, I have basic engineering skills, but don't have expierence with karts. I have built a fully functioning am/FM radio from scrap a year ago and it works to this day.
And to answer your question, I go to highschool and have downtime throughout the day.

Building an AM/FM is a much different type of engineering, if you want to experiment to find "the best" you could instead not waste your time and listen to these guys here. It is great to learn on your own, but much more wise to also learn from others.

Im stating that i have some building skills in different areas. And its not a dashboard radio FYI.

You've missed his point. What he was trying to say was that just because you have experience in a particular subject, it does not make you an expert on the whole package. To redirect the original example;

You may be able to build a well-functioning radio, but this doesn't mean you know squat about accoustics or the dynamics of sound. Ergo, you would need to collaborate with an engineer to design the cabinet, and all in partnership with a speaker expert.
