well i was surfing for parts and this little guy popped up for a price i couldnt pass up. Got it for 160. Motor runs a little poorly, i want to find a good 10-16hp to put on the back and get a comet 40 to strap on it with some 20x11 in the rear

The gx670 came with electric start, with the key from new, ohv, external oil cooler, low oil cut off for long life durability. Battery, battery cables, stock air filter and filter housing were also all included. Only set me back 200.

I like where this is going (evil grin). That is a sexy looking kart. I think when you put some bigger tires on the rear you should definitely upgrade the fronts too. Otherwise, I see many endo's in your future

For the money your going to spend on a comet 40 you could have a dirt bike motor that has 4-5 gears, lighter and better for a go kart, your not always burning up belts, a dirt bike motor gives you that high torque in 1st gear and that top speed you want in 5th gear, or if you needs more power buy a 500-1200 cc motorcycle engin, 1-4 cylinders, that big beast of a motor tops out at 3600 rpm and I know you can do all sorts of mods but I would never try to get high rpm from a lawnmower engine, one negative thing to note, most older motorcycles are air cooled so you would need to build some air ducts or use a old car cooling fan to blow air accros the fins, personally I would use a combination of both, or a really easy engine is a old snowmobile engine. You already have a tough cvt system and tons of rpm and power

Ok. I'm with you on MOST of this, but the burning belts thing. I punished the crap out of my 40 for years- geared too high and doing hills. The CVT and the belt took it all and came back for more. The 40s belts are thicker and more durable than all other commonly available CVTs.

well ive got an old roketa 150cc quad thats sitting in the back, in gonna see if that will match up to the motor. as for doing a motorcycle motor i dont need 5 gears, im planning on buying a golf cart clutch and driven and rig it up to a jacksaft if the gearbox doesnt match up

No way anything off a golf cart could handle 24hp

I wouldn't be too sure about that. I've seen golf cart CVT's. They are pretty stout. While the engines aren't huge, the carts are heavy, and designed to carry 2-4 people plus gear, on hilly terrain. I'd use one.

well after putting the gx670 on for a mock up im not happy about the weight, i put it up on craigslist for a bit more than i bought it for and had a couple offers but nothing i wanted to sell for, gonna use the money i get from the motor to buy a motorcyle motor for the cart and use the rest to buy other parts. I found a couple i think will do the job. anyone have an idea on which ones better

first choice is a Kawasaki ex500 motor found one with all the goodies for 300

My buddy got one just like this yesterday. But he traded some kid a pair of 5$ headphones for it haha. His needs tons of work now xD. I saw a nice engine on craigslist that would work for what you're doing here.
