A Trike Forum?

Hi! I'm new to your forum, (Looks like lots of fun.) and would like to submit a couple of home-brew creations. I can't wait to start looking through all these threads to see what everyone is up to!....

I've resorted to trikes because the steering issues are easier to resolve.

The first is a "Stand-Up" type of scooter that was built from... an old stand-up scooter. I knocked the original rear rollers off and welded an axle and some cheap HF wheels. The engine is a 60000-series B/S... (2hp). I have had a B/S 3hp on it, and it gets pretty squirrely. Max speed with the little engine, just above 20mph. Because of the gearing, the 3hp offered no top-speed advantage.

The second was a "Lazy Guy's" version of the 1st. I was sick and tired of standing up, so I went to the old "Big Wheel" of childhood days for inspiration. The frame is scratch, the front half is an old female Schwinn, the seat is an old dining-room chair with the legs cut off. This has seen many different engines, starting with a 3hp B/S (39mph), a 5hp B/S (47mph) and an 8hp B/S which was still gaining at 52mph when I chickened out. These figures were verified by a handheld GPS while trying to keep things straight! The 8hp is overkill, and will have to go onto a stouter project! (Who knows what, though...)

Trike proposal...

Here is something I've been kind of messing around with as the next logical step in my quest for building useless things..... Financial issues will keep this from happening anytime soon, though. It will have a live axle, wheel-barrow sized wheels, and a dropped frame to help it corner better. I have had really good experience with those 6.5hp Harbor Freight engines, so that would most-likely power it. A 4.5-1 ratio will give it the speed and pickup that I want, and I'd use a clutch... Torque-Converters are cool, but too expensive to justify on a "What-If" project like this.

Ive got a trike, its as early 80's yamaha 400 motorcycle that i welded an atc axle to the frame.this thing is (was) a beast it would do wheelies all day long.but i was goin through a swamp muddin and i reved it up to about 10,000 rpm and dropped the clutch and i snapped the first gear into pieces...i have got this thing up to 71 mph down a dirt road and it coulda gone more but i was sliding all over lol.

my next thing i guess you could say its a trike but its actually just a 3 wheeled harleydavidson golf cart with a 340 kawasaki twin sled engine in it.havent got this runnin right yet but i just ordered some parts 4 it.

Those are cool! That golf cart is going to be a burn-out monster! Did you preserve the bike's rear suspension, or is it solid to the frame? NICE work!

i just got the cart runnin good and its pretty fun in the snow slidin around,its got
ALOT of power,and yes,i did save the bikes suspension.thanks

what 3-wheeler rear end was that?

its from a yamaha between 125-200cc not sure cause i picked up 3 yami 3 wheelers years ago for 40 bucks at a swap meet but only saved a few parts.

i got a new gear set for the trike and i think im gunna cut the swingarm,extend it,and put a longer travel shock on there cus the stock one kinda sucks.

why does the stock one suck? If its a stock suspension on that 3-wheeler it was either a 200 or 225DX

the motorcycles rear suspension sucks offroad since its made for on road use,it only has like 3 inches of travel,the only part off of the yami 3 wheeler was the axle setup not the suspension.

got ya, i can see how that might not be very plush. go big this time get a massive shock/spring set up 9 inches of travel.

I didnt get a chance to GPS it, but im guessing upper 40's. MAYBE into the 50's. The rear diff is geared so low it loses alot of speed.Its just rotting in the backyard right now..broken.

Schwinn Meridian Trike Build

I am going to put a Honda GXH-50 motor on back of a trike.
My friends say it won't work. The Wright Bros. heard the same thing a while back Centrifical clutch down to a 60 tooth
rear sprocket. Anyone done this yet? Any ideas on the sprocket size for the motor? 20-30 mph is what I need. The motor on front will be to much work to get it right. I removed it already.

Ohh you bought one of those ZBOX kit's. If you get it to work let me know how much torque it has.
