Engine problem

Hi guys

I dont know if this has been asked yet or not. I just got an older go kart from my neighbor and as soon as I start the engine the drive wheel starts spinning. No one is pushing the throttle pedal. What could the problem be?

Bad clutch maybe? Id wait for someone who may know more like toystory. But pictures never hurt.

actually pictures are the BEST way for us to help you solve your problem. it could be a lot of different things. get some good clear large pics of the clutch and drive system.

read the thread on how to post pics using the "go advanced" button and "manage attachments" and "browse to upload file from computer" to upload the pictures.

It could mean that your idle is set too high and the clutch is engaging right away. Clutch could be bad. Do you have a TC?

No problem. A TC is a torque converter, or CVT (continuous variable transmission). You will either have one of these or a centrifugal clutch. Here are some pics of TC's. The last one is a centrifugal clutch

Ok so it looks like I have a centrifugal clutch. Now why does it spin when its not supposed to?

Generally, it boils down to one of three possibilities.
1) Engine idle set too high
2) Bad clutch
3) Chain (or belt) too tight

Begin by turning the idle speed down until it's about to stall. That's as low as it's going to go, and if that doesn't solve it, then it's a different problem.
