So I have a carter two seater off road cart w roll bar. Wife rolled it yesterday and tried to catch herself and broke her arm above the elbow. If arms had stayed inside cart she would have been fine. My question is I'm looking for a way to keep arms inside cart if this happens especially with my kids riding. Was thinking maybe a net of some sort. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear about your wife.

You can either put netting on the sides of the kart like you said, or you can get writs restraints that you attach to your wrists and then to the steering shaft or something. They don't allow your arm to move enough to actually stick out the roll cage, but allow you enough freedom to steer the kart properly.

You can see what I mean in these links

I'd find or make a grab handle or O.S. handle. Other than that I'd teach your kids what to properly do in a roll over(grab your chest and keep limbs inside).

Go with the netting or restraints. A grab bar won't do a blessed thing for a person unless they have the instinct to hang on to it. This CAN be trained into a person, but takes time. Normal human instinct is to reach out and try to stop the roll. We all know that this is all but impossible and unfortunately, your wife proved it. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for her.

Just for perspective. I did not see this coming. They ride together so I need both sides encased per say. Gonna fab something but cart is parked till then. Eye opening experience. On a positive note the roll bar adaquatly stopped the roll, cart just layed over on its side and slid a little. Thanx for the suggestions. I've been following this site for a while. Open to any other advice as well.

Sodry to hear about your wife. that looks like it hurt. I'd use wrist restraints to. Nets are good to but they can obstruct your view also. You want to make sure they can't tangle the wrist restraints around the wheel and lose control. I've been thinking about that. You won't want to mount them to the column. This would promote them wrapping arond the wheel. Could try mounting them to the floor in front of the seats. Post a pic or to of the cart if you have some handy. That way we can get a better idea of what you've got to work with.

I dont think you need to worry about it too much . She cant be dumb enough to do it twice. Assming she ever gets in it again. And if shes like any women iv ever known she will warn the kids about it every time they set eyes on it

I am not too sure about that. Instinct is instinct. It is hard to overide it.

Ouch. That X-ray looks painful. At least it was a clean break and should heal well

I have been thinking of netting like u find on race car windows but so far unable to find anything large enough for the openings. Kinda surprised there isn't a market for this:( I may just be over reacting but I'm worried about lettin my girls back on it. I got this cart for them for Christmas, dropped a 212 in it, new belt, fixed seat and they have a blast on it. Only took 1 month for major injury!!!! Pondering my next move, may just sell it:/

I wouldn't be so hasty. After installing all the safety features you should be fine

I'm not a fan of the netting idea, if something happens it would be much harder to get out of.

U bring up a good point:) u can exit through the front tho, have been thinkin wrist restraints, maybe. I really enjoy this cart, was just fixin to mod my motor before the accident. Had an idea of removing nobs on rear tires to prevent digging in and promote sliding but may increase overall tendency to flip cart if it catches:/ don't know just throwing it out there. Thanx for everyone's input:)

if you could get the wheels pushed out farther that would help with stability. even just on the rear if you want to keep the steering geometry correct without major modification. and try to lower the center of gravity. or just pull out the second seat and just have a single seat in the middle.

We all need to keep in mind that there is no such thing as a "safe" kart, "safer" is what we're all after....which means always using a helmet ( a good helmet, not a $39 WalMart helmet) and a neck collar. I know, they cost a few bucks but too many times that "just once around the yard" is the one that bites you.
