Boys don't grow up, they just get bigger & their toys get more expensive :D

With our help, you won't be "new at this" for long.

What is your background? Do you have any experience with this type of thing (engines, mechanics, etc)?

Welcome to the forum! You gotta love the father-son stuff! Makes for good bonding, good learning, and keeps the kids off the Xbox. Good on ya!

Start up a thread in the Photo Gallery and Project Log section, post a couple pics and your questions, and we'll do our best to guide you along through a successful project!

I feel your pain! My little project for my sons (thought it would be a good way to learn their way around the workings of a car) has been a steep learning curve for me.

My cart that cost me 200 bucks (thought it was a good deal) was actually a mess.

Frame is being re welded right now by a friend who is fixing the busted and bent bits. Bought a new motor, new front wheels, new rear tires, new clutch, new chain, new drive sprocket, new throttle cable...

Probably going to paint it since I tore the whole thing down for the re welding. In the end, I might have been better off buying a new one!

Maybe cheaper buying, but way more fun building your own with your kid! And this is the stuff your kid will remember forever. Can't put a price on that!

It certainly is!

How proud I was when my older son broke down his kart engine, yanked the governor, put it back together, and lit 'er up!

Well said and so true in the end. So far we have amassed a pile of parts. I'm excited about getting it together!
