Update: 11 Nov 2012

The Kart is coming along, did plenty of test runs, and the 420 cc engine has power/torque to spare. So much torque I have decided to go with dual sprockets. Seriously the predator 420 cc engine is the way to go, so much better than a sled engine, and the rpm's do not wrap up like it is going to explode, or sound like it needs to change gears. Smooth engine, 300 plus bucks with a free 2 year warranty, I would highly recommend it to anyone. I will get a vid, and more Pics. Apologize for the delay, having to paint the house before the cold/wet weather moves in.

Update:

So far I have my 13 hp predator engine (in Hand), torque converter (in The Mail). I am going to the junk yard, and find a small auto, and pull the cv shafts with the works, disk brakes, hubs etc. I am in the process of cleaning the garage, and will get some pics going soon. I have my frame on paper, I know I have to keep the weight down, but at the same time, I want a rigid frame. the role cage will double as a top cargo area/ solar charger for buggin out. I will put some oil in the engine, and give it a test run, idle it out, and initial oil change, take some pics. I am good at welding, but it is time to buy a wire feed, stick gets old striking all the time. Also going to put a hitch on, and build a custom light weight buggin out trailer. I am selling the Jet Kayak to fund this project.
I am new at posting, although reading, i will get the hang of it.

Those are nice engines. I hope you got the right TC for it. Did you get the Comet 40 series. They can handle the 13HP that this engine puts out.

I am looking forward to seeing what you build

cv joints

After a lot of reading I did get the right TC. Going to the junk yard today. Look at some different cv joints, see what will work for me.
It is slow going in this heat wave we are having. Soon will be running some calculations for the rear sprocket, looking to get more smooth torque take offs, rather than high speed. I should know more about the tire size today. Really need more rain around here before welding the frame. It is really dry. Although will be laying it out.

CV joints

Went to the Junk yard. I did get The CV axles for the kart. I have my work cut out. Main thing is the cv joints, and bearings. They will look a lot different after I re-work them. I not going to use the disk brakes in the picture, to heavy. Plus I will stream line the mounts, making everything lighter, but still very strong.

Yeah, your right I had to do that last summer when building the smoker. not to get off subject, but we just planted the fall garden, and been having to water the sprouts. We are on a COOP, but the water is very expensive. Bright side, Cool front coming in this weekend. Wow!! just going, getting the CV shafts, hot:devil2: All those yrs working on Army Tanks is catching up with me.
Although it is a good Idea to spray water down, I have fire extinguishers in the garage, hope I never need them. I believe in playin it safe

haha nice. here in Washington a fire was caused by some people welding on a bridge. moral is always have some type of fire prevention be it just some sheet metal on the ground or water it down and have either a bucket of water or a fire extinguisher close by.

sorry to here your water is so expensive

Well, Change 22. The Yerf-dog blew the engine. So it is already a big kart, but just a live axle in the back. Anyway, I am modifying it for the 13 hp. I already have it cut in half, and added 9" to the frame. Have 2 new 1/2 ton load bearing shocks for the rear, Yeah!!! Plus adding more rigid support, Iron is not the problem, just trying my best not to over kill it.
Still a lot of work, but atleast being honest about it. The shocks seem like overkill, but after watching a lot of videos, I noticed most carts have to much bounce, not rigid enough. I have a lot fabricated, will get some new pics...soon. I will never buy dollar store batteries for the camera, never again.
I took your advice, watered everything down.....even my shoes are wet.

Which shocks did you go for?

I've put that HF 13hp on my Granddaddy build and I'm not sure the shocks i've used are big enough.

Yeah, the oil injector line was clogged on the 90 cc engine. Anyway the Kart is coming along. Now working on the hinge/bearings, and may mount the rear shocks today. Had to totally make new front strut arms. They turned out very good. It is tough fabricating these parts without a lathe!!. After a lot cutting grinding, welding it is looking like something. I may have some overkill in the rear shocks, but it is better than bouncing up-down, and flipping.
I did get a new Internet connection, and will post some more pictures soon.

I used load shocks for 1/4 ton chevy, they are rigid. I watched a lot of videos, and noticed, most karts bouncing, and they had to slow down to take a small ditch, or bump. I am at a standstill right now waiting for a new axle, 60T sprocket/Hub, Wheel hubs, and bearings, have 2 flange type, and 2 bolt on type/W grease fittings coming in the mail. In the pics you can see one of the 3 hinges I fabricated, I used pipe, and lawn more blade shaft bearings. 2 bearings, and a spacer between them, total 3 hinges, with 3/4 bolts. I really could have used a lathe!!! I had to cut the pipe then re-weld the cut, then made a hone, to get a good fit for the bearings.
Hey I apologize for not responding sooner, I kinda loose my place, and have to find it again.

The new axle is 45", it will be wider in the back, and give me more options for tires, plus I will insure plenty of off road ground clearance when mounting the new axle/bearings.. I already compensated for it when I built the front wheel arms. I can take a cut off wheel on my grinders, and reduce a lot of weight, by cutting the centers out of the plate I used, and still be very rigid for the Mods. As you can see in the pic, the sprocket is very small, and Hopefully the new 60T sprocket will work out a lot better. In the pic the tires look good, but they are Shot!!!, side walls are dry rotted bad, and have many plugs in them. I found a deal on 5 bran new 16X8-7 Trail Wolf tires for $40.00. I am running 20" on the back, but found out here on this site that smaller tires=more take off torque.
For the price I paid for the tire cannot go wrong, they will work for a lot of stuff.
I just checked, and I think they are now sold out on the tires. I bought them at bmikarts, they alway have some kind of discount pricing.

Sprocket #41 60T (AZ2166-60) SKU/PNO:AZ2166-60 1 x $26.95 = $26.95

Plus I have more parts coming in from another vendor off ebay, more bearings with grease fittings.
Today, I am re-padding, and covering the seat, head, and side rest. I am fabricating it from 3/4 plywood. Using my electric staple gun, and stainless staples. Already have the padding, and cover material on hand. Get it done while waiting on the new parts. I seen some nice rear tires at tractor supply, and I will be buying a set next week. Although I have 5 trail wolf tires coming in, just could not pass up the deal, 5 for 40 bucks, I can use them on another kart. We are going to build my son a 1 seat off road kart. plus have the small kart for the grand kids.

You may have to move that chain tensioner to the other side of the chain. If I'm looking at your pic correctly, it is on the tight side rather than the slack side of the chain. The torque of the engine is going to be constantly fighting against it, trying to pull the chain straight, and it's likely to break if it's solid mounted, or just not work if it is spring loaded.

Thanks, Yeah I was not sure about the chain idler. I am hoping not to have to use one when I mount the new axle, and sprocket.
It is hard to see but it is spring loaded, and good thing, cause you are very right, it sure would have broke. The old axle, and sprocket in the pic, along with the bearings are wore out. The bearings are grinding/binding. It a proprietary axle, not much options.

2 of my new bearings came in yesterday, they are the ones with cast iron housings/ grease fitting, 2 bolt hole pattern.

I am mounting the new axle back a little more under the load of the engine. Mostly clean it up, lay it all out see what will work the best

Working on the seats, and head rest. On the work bench I have the seat mount with 2 springs mounted for the rear, and will hinge the front, have some other metal on the bench it is just stock.
