also thank you for the advice on the boot wear.i will look at that.
he says the bottom end just let go
hmmmm
my friends bikes all have hour meters on them. but they used to race them.
he says the motor is out and the head and jug is off.
So, he said the bottom end is dead.. $200 for the bottom end kit. (assuming this is a bearing/seal kit and not a rebuilt crank)
Then. About $100 for someone to press your crank apart, install the bearings and press it back together. That's assuming no damage was done to the rod/crank(which there almost certainly will be), in which case, add a few hundred on top of that for a new crank/rod.
Whilst you're there, you'd be mad not to fit a new piston and rings. Add on another $100+. What happens if you find it's on the last oversize? Well you'l be up for a new jug too (if not soon).
Seeing as you've done all that, you may as well throw in a new water pump, add on another $50.
Add on another $50 for random consumables, gaskets and bits you find you need, ect.
At best, that's $850 to get this thing running properly again.
But again, what if the "bottom end damage" has damaged the cases or gearbox/clutch? The price sky rockets again!
In short, for a 20 year old bike that isn't particularly rare, sought after or high performing, it's not worth it.
Naturally, if you advertised that bike in that condition here in Australia for double what he wants, your phone would be ringing flat out all week.
Thanks
