Looks like a decent kart. It has a torque converter and that's good. Brake fix should not be difficult or expensive. I would offer $200 in person and go from there. This forum can guide you in your repairs.

Well that one didn't pan out, however...

SCORE!!

I'll get some better pics soon, just trying to find my jackstands, so I can set to work on it.

Unless it's hidden under the chain shroud, no. I'm still learning so I'll get some better pics up ( I'm gonna need the help anyways :innocent:). 2 hours of searching, and I finally just broke down and went and got some stands from O'Reilly's. Think someone ran off with them. :censored:

I was wrong, it does have a TC on it.
Some more pics of the engine:
I got a chain with it, though it could use cleaning and I need to get a master link:

I'm probably using the wrong terms here, so bear with me. The pin(?) that attaches the throttle cable to the engine was pushed through (picture below, circled in red) and preventing the engine from slowing down. Is there something that needs to be on there to prevent that from happening?
Also, It seems like there's a lot of slack in the cable but I can't pull any of it out, any suggestions?

Ok, got the throttle cable sorted out. It's a Manco Dingo 285 series with the mechanical drum. Should the caliper be loose? Also, and this is a really dumb question I know , What kind of oil should I use in the engine (Tecumseh 5.5)?

regular 4 cycle motor oil is fine.

The "caliper" is called a band on a drum (someone correct me if I am wrong). It should be loose enough to have the drum move freely but be tight enough to stop the kart when the peddle is pressed.

Thanks, I was having trouble determining if it was 4 cycle or not. I called it a caliper because everywhere I've looked online has called it that.

Are you talking about the drum shaped part that goes over the pads. Like in this pic?

To get technical for a second; it's not a 4 cycle, it's a 4 stroke which, technically, is 2 cycles (2 strokes = 1 cycle).

When talking about engines, we talk in strokes, not cycles.

Yes, i'm being picky, deal with it :roflol:

@ souperman: I thought you'd know better
