well folks, I'm going to do some upgrading around here, finally. First choice, is taking this forum from VB3 to vbulletin4. Most reviews I've read have been mixed at best about VB4.

I'm strongly considering a xenforo solution. It's very intuitive and I'm digging the demo I'm using.

Questions:

- Anyone got a favorite software?

- On other forums, how important is facebook integration?

- How important is mobile access to you?

Cool! I don't mind the vbulletin software, however, the skin is a bit dated if you don't mind me saying. I do like most of the features that have been used though, for example the 'thanks' button, and how easy it is to edit your post. On some forums, I can't work out if/how you do it.

Facebook integration does not bother me at all. I agree with bluethunder. I doubt any of my 15 year old Facebook friends would give a crap about the forum, although I do have a few mates that are into engines and making.

I use the site on my iPod mainly. It is fairly good, but if there is a mobile option that would be sweet!

Oh I know, it's embarrassing how bad the forum skin looks really. Need to slap a coat of paint on it for sure.

Us old fogies (yeah, I said it) couldn't care less about FB or mobile-friendliness. Good to see you're going to be freshening things up, though!

Now and then, I check in if I'm having a boring coffee- or lunch-break at work. Considering how archaic my Crackberry is, I can still navigate this forum OK. I s'pose I just don't know what I'm actually missing.

I personally don't care about facebook integration

But most of my posting (like now)
Is done by phone so any thing to help with mobile use would be great

Facebook integration? Not exactly sure how it would be integrated but I highly doubt I'd even touch it.

For this forum I'm on the 'if it aint broke don't fix it' boat.

Although if there's a way to filter newbies through the basic clutch/gearing faqs before they post a dead horse on the forum I'd be all for it. or possibly something like a 'help request form' telling people what information we'll need, at least. Or a flowchart. Anything, really, since people tend to not read the stickies or use the search button...

EDIT: maybe for a joinup anti-robot question, have a little blurb telling them to use the search button, and under that ask 'what button will you use for issues such as your kart having very little torque, wanting to take off on its own, smoking clutch', etc.

Gotcha. I'm hearing the phone angle! I've been looking at xenforo, I like it a LOT more than this software. I hate to go making changes and tick off the base of users, but I think that a change to it would work well.

I like the way the site is.I dont know much about what kind of changes would/could be made. One change i saw on another forum i frequent is a box under user control that you could change the skin to two different choices.I do get this forum on my Iphone through formrunner, and it works great.

Since I can already navigate this site with my phone, what exactly will be different? Is the layout just going to be more small-screen friendly, or... ?

Yes, certainly more phone-friendly. Not a huge lot of changes. streamline some other things..
