Nice- I was cruising the local buy/sell site (Kijiji.com) and came upon this ad. I wasn't planning on buying anything, but for kicks and giggles started communicating with the seller. Asking price was $200 each, and thanks to Christmas, that ain't happening. Long story short, I'm getting both for $300 and the guy's being very accommodating and holding them for me until next weekend!

I'm so excited, I'm having a very difficult time keeping the secret from my kids- I'm going to surprise them with the bikes if I can keep my mouth shut long enough...

Anyhow, They are 98cc Baja Dirt Bugs. Basic, but pretty clean by the looks of things. They do run and are said to be in good condition. For that price, even if they didn't start I'd still be amused. Around here, they sell for $430 (+13% Tax) each...

Yup! Actually, I know a guy who might have some parts to rebuild my old Tec H60, (laughing like he// over here right now- no names, right?) and maybe pop that bad boy on there!

there nice bikes, definetley nice for a bigger motor, i beleive some of thesse ones are made for bigger motors already, now make sure the brakes work well and the motors are atleast taken care of, as for the kids, tell them theyll get a suprise, but they have to wait and give them NO hints, then when you get them, get them out of the car and blindfold the children !

Regarding OMB. OMG! Holy hannah, they are PARANOID about the whole governor thing! Jeez Louise- typing "governor" will getcha banned over there! Unreal! (Thanks for the freedom of opinion, Robert!!!)

toystory I learned a long time ago to never argue with stupid.
What those guys fail to remember is all of the early minibikes as we know them were nothing more than spinoffs of the early karts.
MFG's such as Rupp, Bug, Taco, Fox all made minibikes with the same 2 stroke engines as their karts, West Bend, Clinton, Power Products, and yes McCulloch powered NONE of which were governed.
It wasn't until later on they start fitting them with 4 stroke engines.
You ain't lived until you have about ripped your arm out of the socket snatching a cord on a Taco with a WB820 on it (160 lb compression), and twisting the throttle back and feel that bad mofo come alive and throw your butt back on the seat and haul you down the street in some cases 50+ mph with out a helmet or pads mind you.
Yeah those were the good old days when getting hurt made a man out of you, these days kids can't even ride a bicycle without pads and helmet.

I'm sure I've made my own opinions clear on this forum- and it's just that- my own opinion. But the whole forum "enforcing" an opinion? I dunno... Seems a bit dictatorial.
I got no problem with helmets and motorsports, I make my kids wear 'em and when I'm pushing my luck, so do I. But there's thousands of stock clone flywheels out there turning better than 3600 RPM without issue. Spit happens, and it can happen to a Briggs or Honda, too.

Porsche, you certainly are entitled to your own viewpoints, and we welcome those viewpoints here. Am I gonna ban you for hating clones? No. Do I really care what sections you will or will not hang out in? No. Frankly, I'll use any good engine I can get my hands on, even if I do prefer Honda. I suspect one of these bikes is gonna end up with a Tec H60 on it, probably without the governor. Could be a couple years before it happens...

Either way, if you want to preface all your gov-related responses with "Do this at your own risk, etc", groovy. But to ban guys for suggesting it? Puh-lease...

PS- And I would LOVE to get my mitts on a vintage, two-stroke powered beast!!!

ive had my amount of spills and blood (and hospital visits explaining what happened, LOL), and i still wear a helmet, i mean wearing a helmet and pads at about 5mph, i disagree there. now pulling around 25+ im wearing my helmet. ive rode a vintage 2 stroke mini bike and mind me when i tell you, its nothing like today, there is no pull the throttle a little bit, its out as soon as you pull it back. ive ran an ungoverned clone stock flywheel and such, not a thing happened, but at the same time i wasnt holding the thing wide open for 20 minutes at a time. i worked my way up from a 3.5 tec, and im coming to a 6.5 with a torque converter, bikes grow when you do and you have to be **** careful

When I finish my minibike build, I'm gona stick my modified Victa 125 in it (should be capable of over 10000rpm, standard flywheel of course) and post about it on there and watch heads explode.

my freind started up his generator and a nut flew out and hit him in the face
that doesnt mean all generators will fall apart if u staart them

So true. Thats what I like about this forum and bobs 4 cycle. Over there there is some rule saying "you must spend $160 on an arc rod and flywheel when you remove the governor or your engine will explode at 3601 rpm".

As for engine conversions IMO leave them both with the standard engines.

Stuff like this is so much more fun when they're the same (so races aren't unfair) and when they're docile enough for every one to ride them.

I agree. It seems that everybody wants to build the fastest, most powerful thing possible. I like a bike that goes about 20 mph and doesn't flip over when you open the throttle. Your kids can learn to handle a bike without you wondering if they're going to accidentally launch themselves off of it.

By far, the most fun bike I've ever ridden was a Suzuki RV90. It was gutless, couldn't lift the front wheel in first without dumping the clutch (even then....) pulled a max of 78km/h with 2km of down hill run up, it handled particularly badly, the brakes are shocking, Suzuki list the braking distance as 7m (23feet) at 35km/h (22mph).

What made it so good to ride is that it had a fantastically flexible engine, I once watched someone take off in 3rd (they probably only weighed 35kg), the bike didn't mind at all. Very impressive for a small 2 stroke with a manual clutch. It'l happily idle along at 30km/h in top gear. Fantastic (if not completely gutless) engine, Suzuki do 2 strokes better than most IMO.

The handling was VERY forgiving, whilst it very little grip at all(really just because of the road/sand style tyres and the clay/gravel surface we were riding it on), it'd let you know long before it "let go" and if you really threw it into a corner it'd just sort of slide and hop around, very hard to lay it down on its side. It had the best ride of any bike I've ever ridden, that was nice, quite long travel for a small bike too. It'd easily ride over branches and so on like they weren't there.

As you can probably tell, part of what made this so fun was how easy it was to ride and how forgiving it was when you mess up. I can think of 7 people off the top of my head who learnt to ride on this bike, I've never seen anyone lay it down or properly crash it into anything despite some truly stupid things being done on it. Even the most novice riders could push this machine to its limits with very little ride time.

I'm not saying that all easy to ride vehicles are fun, but I think most are greatly more fun than harder ones, especially if many newbies are riding them.

I'd swap my 250 for an RV90 any day.

Oh, don't get me wrong fellas, those bikes are going to remain horribly underpowered for quite some time. I love my kids and want them to have a good time, not get killed. Everywhere I look, jackshaft reduction is suggested for these bikes as they seem to be overgeared from the factory, so I may do that.

And, yeah, they're for me too- why not? I never had cool crap like this when I was a kid, so why not treat them a bit?

I built that bike last year with 9.18 to 1 ratio and 11 inch tires, and it was a lot of fun with an ungoverned 79 cc engine. It went around 20 mph on gravel. How big are the tires on your bikes?

Post a report when you start running the bikes, and if you add a jack shaft let us know how it works out. I'm really interested in whatever data you come up with because I'm planning to build another small bike with the new 99 cc engine from Harbor Freight. I like the idea of having fat tire bikes with plenty of power, but I'd like to keep a mild mannered bike around for novice riders.
