Hate bashing other peoples rides. But I think engines sticking way up in the air head level looks really dumb. It takes away from everything IMO.

Franky, Do you have the frame that the 600cc engine came off of? Would be nice to make your mounts from the original frame.

If you widen the front j-arms make sure you take lots of pics and make a thread. There is no info on this mod I can find. The next Ody I do I am going to make some vids. I already have the aftermarket wider J-arm on my yellow buggy. I will use that to make a jig. If you need better pics on my wider j-arms on my blue Ody let me know. I will take some goods pics or vids for you. The tierods are easy. Just use the original ones and some pipe that slides over them. Then just plug weld them in to lenth. Remember if you widen the j-arms you cannot use the original upper shock location. Here are some shots to give you some ideas. As you can see making the j-arms wider is pretty easy mod as far as the j-arms go.

Also consider making adjusting upper shocks mounts. My yellow racer has this setup. would be nice to adjust the ride height.

Also buy some good shocks for your project. The FL250's are heavy and need a good shocks.

Not sure if these pics show the upper mounts good. If not I will take some better ones.

Thats a good idea about making adjustable shock mounts. I definately want to do away with the stock shocks and get some better ones on there.

Ill do a writup with lots of pics when i do the extended j-arms on there. Looks pretty straightforward and i should just be able to cut the stock one, add some tube, and weld together, and add a brace. Since im doing a custom roll cage i was planning on doing the shock mounts, etc to that instead of how they are now.

To answer your question about the frame. No, i do not have the frame but i got the engine with the cradle from the frame so it works out great. Im going to use that to build the mounts off of. You may be able to see it in the pics if you look close.

here are some pics of the rough mockup. The engine will actually sit about 5-6" higher to gain some ground clearance and make sure i dont tear the oil pan off it... And im going to get a +4" axle once im finished with the mockup and it actually becomes a roller.

I dont know if i ever answered your question about the shocks. I searched alot and will probly use some cheap long travel shocks. I found one set that was 17" long with 6" of travel and one set that was 22" long with 6" of travel. These are not gas shocks as i couldnt find any that were under $500 a set... Although i may pony up for a set like this

I found one set that was 17" long with 6" of travel and one set that was 22" long with 6" of travel. These are not gas shocks as i couldnt find any that were under $500 a set... You probably can find many shocks that will work fine. I was more saying stay away from the cheap China ones. A dual rate shocks would be nice though. For how heavy the fl250 is a good made shock is really needed. The ones you listed are for full sized dune buggy right?

I'm not sure. I came across them but I dont know what the length or spring rate is. For the back I might go with a set of sport atv front shocks. Those are usually pretty long, and would be good at holding the weight and dampening. In fact I had a can am Baja 650 in the shop today and those Front shocks would have been perfect.

Perhaps you can find some used ones from ebay after they upgraded the stock ones.

I ended up ordering a set of 400EX front hubs with discs on ebay for $32 shipped. Got them in today and theyll work good with a change of the outer bearing. The inner bearing is the correct size but the outer is smaller. So if i put two inner bearings on the hub it will work good. It also leaves me the option of running front brakes which i like. I think i can fab up a caliper mount and make it work good.

Also ordering the matching ITP rims for it like the back and they offer them with 1" wider offset so I'll probably do that.

Here is the front 400EX hub on the stock ody spindle. Plenty of room to mount a caliper, plus if you look at where the rim sits on the 400EX hub its farther out than the ody so it will make it wider. Plus i looked up the matching ITP rims for the front and they offer them 1" wider so its an easy way to widen the front end, get a more popular rim size/tire size, and take some weight off the front end as the new hub is lighter than the ody one i took off.

Im probly going to take some flat plate and build a caliper mount that will weld to the front spindle. Ive checked measurements and i shouldnt have any clearance problems even with grinding the fork stops to make it turn sharper.

Make sure you keep an eye on the tierod or steering arm hitting the wheel. With the larger wheel you may not have to worry about it. The good thing is thats solid thick parts on the ody front end. Should be plenty strong to weld a bracket on. Looks good.

How will you control the front brakes? Pedals?

The rear is going to be different than the front. Do you homework before you buy for the rear hubs. Your talking splines and not shafts.
