Howdy all, this will be my intro and questions all at once.
I'm no stranger to projects and things with wheels and motors, however this has a few quirks I need a bit of help with.
Here is what I am dealing with.
Carter with 6HP Tecumseh
Picked it up for lets say a "good price"
Non-running due to fuel bowl and jet falling out when being bounced around with a 6yr old at the wheel.
Order a new bowl, new nut/jet, gasket and at least it will hold fuel in.
At first it would not run without the rear being in the air and the throttle held wide open. After reading a few posts on here, I pulled the low idle jet, cleaned that up and it seems to be idling just fine now. Primer bulb doesn't seem to be doing much, so that may need to be replaced down the road as it's looking a bit weather checked.
The issue now is what I need some help with. When I try to hop in it and go, it bogs down and will stall out if I keep on the gas, if I try to keep burping the throttle, it MAY catch. If I am not sitting in it, or if I get a push start, it will more that likely allow me to get going. If when moving, I let off the throttle, it is a similar situation. I am about 215 lbs as a ref point, it reacted very close to the same with a 185lb rider as well.
Note#1=the chain was rusty, real rusty, rusty to the point I had to free it with an overnight soak in PB Blaster and a LOT of working it back and forth. The chain now seems to move around both sprockets ok, but I will be replacing that as the wife increases my allowance.
Does this sound clutch related? I'm not familiar with how a kart would react. I'm used to gears and driveshafts, so this is new territory. The motor reaction for the world sounds like somebody taking an pushmower thru a hayfield when it bogs down.
Ideas anyone? things I can check?
Thanks! Jeff
