After going skeet shooting for the first time last Friday, I seem to have caught the firearm bug. I guess it was inevitable, coming from a family of southern farmers. Used a .410, which was more like using a BB gun than a shotgun. Managed to hit 80% of the clays.

Now, I came up to my great uncles farm for the weekend. My dad's cousin invited me to go deer hunting since its muzzle-loader season, so of course I accepted. We sat on the edge of a field for a few hours before dusk. Saw a doe, and having no prior experience with 50cal muzzle loaders, missed. Saw a buck a few minutes later and got a shot off. We think I hit him but he got off. Maybe the buzzards will find him for us in a few days:toetap05: Sucks, cause I was really hoping for some venison.

But needless to say, Ill be buying a shotgun in the next few months. Anyone else been bitten (or rather shot) by the bug?:2guns:

Cool. We've been bird hunting up here in Michigan. Looking forward to the 15th, the start of firearm deer season.

Cool! I've thought about that. I'm into fishing- a related sport. A small rifle might be handy for other things out here in the boonies, too. My old neighbour was a retired cop and offered me a rifle when he moved. Trouble is, for the amount of shooting I'd actually end up doing, it's probably not worth my trouble to get a firearms license. I don't know what you guys have to go through in the states to get licensed, but it's a PITA here. Devino- you got a license? What does it take?

No firearms licenses here, except concealed carry permits, but thats only for handguns. Only license you'd ever have to get is a hunting license, and thats only if your going hunting. Nothing needed to buy a gun and go skeet shooting.:wai:

My brother does a lot of shooting, and I have caught the bug too.
I don't own a gun but have a shotgun liscence and can use my dad's 12 bore and brothers old .410 unsupervised (i'm 15)
We do a fourtnightly phesant and other flying game (pigeons, woodcock, snipe and the odd duck or jay) shoot. I usually have a go. I have only ever shot pigeons, and clays.
We usually get a bag of about 20.

I have been with my bro stalking deer once. I didnt have a go though.
We have lots of venison in the freezer though :)

Holy crap! You guys really took the "right to bear arms" seriously, didn't you? That's kinda scary, actually. Is there at least an age restriction in place?

Same here.

I've got a really old Savage model 7 .22, semiautomatic, but you can push the bolt handle in to lock it to use it as a ghetto bolt-action. It's interesting because instead of disengaging the trigger sear for semi-auto, it just raises another sear to catch the bolt when it's back.

I also have a marlin 81DL bolt action and a pretty modified Mosin-Nagant (muzzlebreak, scoped... really accurate and fun to shoot :roflol:)

And Toystory, at least around here it's 18 to buy a rifle/shotgun, 21 for a handgun. They also run background check on you for every gun you buy.

Sounds nice!

What he said^. FWIW, old handguns (past early 1900's) dont require a concealed carry permit.

With the incredibly lax gun laws around here (meaning NC and VA), an extra $50 can get you a backgroundless check at some shadier places. Lax gun laws are nice, but they really should put SOMETHING in place.

I havent decided if I wanna wait till April to get a 12 gauge so i can buy it myself, or if I just wanna get it through my parents:toetap05: Either way, Im still comin' home with a cigar and a box of ammo on my 18th birthday:D

The collection has begun!

My grandma gave me my late grandpa's boyhood 22. Its a nice little Remington Improved Model 6 Rolling Block 22. It hasn't been used in around 40 years, and I'll be testing it next weekend.

Then I woke up at 4:15 and stood in line at Dicks for an hour and a half on Black Friday to get the Remington 870 12ga pump that I'm getting for Christmas.

EDIT: pics!
