I am installing an intake adapter on my subaru kart engine and I need longer carb mounting studs, does anyone sell these? Also I will double nut the bolts and unscrew them from the block, is there any tips so I dont break them off....cause that would suck/:ack2:

if u are really worried then lay the engine so the studsare facing up
then put penertrating oil around them and leave it for a day

come back and screw 2 nuts onto the stud and lock them together so they wont spin

then put a spanner on the bottom nut and turn it to un do it, this should undo the stud

You might be able to find a suitable stud made for a Honda GX carb, look at affordable go karts, arc, and nr-racing. Mc master car could have studs too.

If you can't find the right stud then a section of steel rod and a thread die will work great.

Hardware stores sell lengths of threaded rod that you cut to length.

BIMGO! great cheap idea!! This may be a dumb question but if I take out the carb mounting bolts do I have to do anything to the carb, such as replace gaskets?

You may, you may not. Best to go ahead and replace them IMO.

Just to finish this topic out, I did find some threaded rod in metric sizes at Fastenal and they work like a charm, none of the box stores carries metric sizes, just in case anyone was wondering. THANKS

Sounds like you've got got yours all sorted out but If you bought one of those thick aluminum air cleaner adaptors, another option is to step (countersink) the mounting holes enough to use your original mounting studs. The pic below illustrates what I mean.

Here's links to a couple threads with more info on installing an air cleaner adaptor on a Subaru:

I thought about that after doing some research, but I had to widen the mounting holes to the sides and step drilling them would have been tedious to say the least. At least this way I can make sure the nuts are on securely with enough threads to keep them there, thanks to thread locker. I think I am going to write up a post detailing all the steps I have been going through modding this robin subaru, I know there are others out there that could use this info....I know I sure could have! :)
