Customer brought us this Manco today. Model 285-18
It looks nice don't it? Said he just got it off of craigslist.
Motor runs fine customer says but says he it is bringing it in for the belt slipping and smoking when he tries to run the cart.
Everything looks fine except there is belt residue on the back of the karts seat where the belt was slipping.
Also customer claims brakes are sticking. The pucks look fine to us. We have not tried to start the motor as yet.

I think he has bigger problems with the steering than braking.
What the hell happened to that tie rod to get it so bent out of shape ?

Yea I noticed that too.
I did not say anything to him about that. If I can straighten it with ease, I usually don't charge for front end alignments and most karts we get need a 4 way alignment. :ack2:

Maybe blaz will chime in...This one defiantly needs cleaning...
The belt is pretty loose too as I can remove it by hand without too much resistance...
Its a comet 20 series...the tire size are 18's but should not make any impact on it as this is one reason it needs the converter..
The belt looks like recent replacement type belt as I recognize the company stampings on the belt. I may try to clean the hubs up real good tomorrow get any debris or burrs of the inside of the hubs put it back on and see what we got. He also mentioned an ideling issue so theres not much telling what I will see once I fire it up.
BTW...some advice from kartman for those reading.
Anytime and everytime you work on one of these karts for any reason make sure you get the drive wheels off the ground BEFORE cranking the engine for the first time.
Safety before fun people!

Blaz will tell you many stories of having karts run off while started with the wheels on the ground. I can only imagine you running after a driverless kart. :p

This is very sound advice- especially for younger folks, or the mechanically misinclined. Heck, even I do this when fiddling with an unfamiliar machine.

The other options I usually suggest are either chocking the wheels , or nosing the kart up to a wall or tree.

When I finished final assembly on the Green Machine, and the kids were begging me for a ride, I made them wait while I put it up on stands. I did the first start up, and throttle and brake checks. Only after verifying that everything was okay, did I first take it for a quick run myself and then (and only then) let them go. It hurt to make them wait, but it led to a wonderful, mishap-free afternoon of karting on their brand-new ride.

The seat belt without the cage is a death trap, i'm sure you'll figure out the drive problems. Just make sure they put a cage on it or remove that seat belt when they do take it back.

better than a broke neck.

thats for sure...

took the turn too sharp, gassed it, and fell off the burm at the right spot.

it was sitting ontop of the roll cage dripping gas.

we have removed the roll cage so i can fit it in my car and work on it. but itll be going back on right after lol

anyways.. i can find the #s off the belt if you want.

here, i think this is readable. t2-8487

Good call Blaz! He just mentioned they put the belt on it but your right. I will point that out to them. I have a lap belt in my 85 vert though...No shoulder belt.
I never wear it.
