I'm trying to figure out why he would opt to use a Walbro PZ-22
instead of a Mikuni or Tillotson.

The Walbro honestly is only slightly better than a modded stock carb.

Mikuni and Tillotson are much more responsive and you can walk into most any cycle shop and get replacement/ performance parts.

Very interesting and informative. But also pretty specific, in terms of demographics. This info would be much more useful to a racing guy than myself, as I personally cannot justify blowing $500+ on a single cylinder industrial engine to power my toys when I can invest that (or less) in a bike engine that will not only outperform the clone, but also includes a clutch and multi-speed transmission.

But you also gain a gearbox. Which IMO, a proper gearbox can do more than a better power/weight ratio.

If you're racing in a specific class, gear boxes, larger displacement, etc. might not be allowed.

Definitely niche info; I'll probably never need it. But, I'll bet that there are more than a few people reading this site that will make use of it.:cheers2:

I liked the Dyno readings at each stage of mod. Who knows if it is actual HP. but I can see an increase or decrease at HP vs RPM.
He also did the mods in an order that a person on a weekly or monthly budget, could add perfomance parts, without backing up in power gains.
I don't plan on ever raceing, but I do like Hot Rodding a small engine, one piece at a time.

I just went through and read his whole write up and noticed, not only is $530 a lot, for me at least, for a new engine, but also he has one decked out shop at his disposal that I think few of us would have access to.
