he has a honda XR80 says it needs a fly wheel.

is this a good bike? i want to trade an Xbox 360 elite 120gb with games.

how would it pull me around? 180lbs.

I always get a bit nervous when I see things like that. Why would it need a flywheel? Make sure you get a reasonable answer before proceeding.

Those little XR80's are awesome little bikes that really hold their value. I used to ride/race the total crap out of my girlfriends XR80 back when I weighed 265lbs. That thing never broke.

I've got no Idea how much your X-box is worth, or if that bike truly needs a flywheel or maybe just has some other problem. But In a few years when your game box is only worth like 5 bucks, that Honda in running condition will still probably be worth $500 or more...

I'd race over there and make that swap before the dude changes his mind!

Why would the flywheel be missing?
Why would the seller not replace it if bike has so much potential value?

Who said the flywheel was missing?
Maybe the seller broke it trying to diagnose an ignition problem, or maybe someone just told him they think its defective.

Heck there's lots of people that dont repair broken things, and then try to quickly sell-em when they move.

On the other hand, whatever problem its got might be a nightmare to fix, and/or It might even be stolen.

before you buy you should investigate how expensive an xr80 flywheel is

180lbs is prob more suited to an xr185/200/250 tho

ok i asked him and this is what he said. whats he mean?

The guy I got it from was going to take it off to replace the points and didn't have the right tool and broke the magnets off the back side of it

does this means it needs points too?

honda is pretty good for old parts

my friend bought a whole lot of new parts for an xr185 of the same vintage. They even had an entire nos exhaust system in stock

you can get any parts you need for that bike.

Take a compression test on it.

In my area you can buy these bikes running for $300 or so. More if in good condition. The bike in the link looks okay from what I can see with crappy pics. Asl for better pics and more info.

I would check it out anyway. If you feel you do not have the skills to fix then walk away.

In Aus, maybe. Stateside you can get **** near any Honda part you need.

yeh maybe my friend got lucky. But they had everything he needed for his 20-30 year old xr185 in stock.

Some parts you have to thru Ebay. Some are hard to get but I have always been able to find parts for my old hondas and yamahas.

I would not be worried about finding parts for the bike in question if I was looking at it. I would be worried about how much they will cost me.

If he said there was flywheel problems I would pull the cover for sure. More so if he said he has been inside of it. Or anyone for that matter? look for any shavings when the cover comes off. Check for play on the bearings and do a compression test.

Or just walk away.....

A lot of manufactures do that with all types of products, not just Honda. Once their original supply of spare parts are sold off, sometimes there's not enough demand to warrant (make a profit) tooling up for a whole another batch.

There's also just so many older Honda products out there still in use that the available parts supplies probably tended to get sold off faster than comparable Kawasaki, Yamaha or Suzuki parts for instance.

And then, the 'bean-counters' at lots of companies like Honda also figure if they stop producing repair parts, some of their loyal customers will just buy a brand new Honda instead of trying to fix the old one... so, its all about max-profit.

Honda has also had so many other manufacturers rip off their engine designs with clones, they probably figure lots of customers will just purchase the lower priced cloned-parts (for repairing genuine Honda's) whenever possible too.
