Just be cautious. People aren't always the most honest. I realize it isn't much money in the broad scheme of things, but it still stinks to be stuck with a hunk of metal in need of tons of work and old, costly parts. Ask if you can come out one day and tinker with it to see if it is in running shape as he says.

you know what i think ill keep it how it is and then mod this engine and slowly upgrade to a bigger engine. Id prefer to take my time and do things right then try to rush it and end up getting a bad result. The kart goes about 25moh with enough torque to drive me without bogging out. its also able to do drifts so i think that for now im good.

I heard that removing thegovernor will make the engine feel like its running with no load which can end up blowing up the engine. is that true? will that happen in my case on this kart?

yeah i was thinking just basically cutting and pasting to my frame like killdozer did. i think thats the best way to do it.

Yes very simple and easy. Your kart would be scary fast with a sled engine. Probably over powered. BUT it is well over built. Might be a good match who knows?

With the killdozer style you can gear it anyway you want.

i just checked out this page and i saw that under drive train the gearboxes that they have limit the max rpm. what i mean is that on theis model the clutch engages at 1800 rpm, and locks at 2200 rpm. http://www.jjamusements.com/model_spec_single.aspx?m=m1&sub=Specifications&modID=2

With some type of sleds you do not even need to reductiion unit/chain case.

Look at this pic. The shaft comming out of the driven it easy to mod. Just machine it to 1" with a key way. The put end on a pillow block. You can also make that shaft longer I am thinking. The sprocket will hit the carbs. (maybe not if it is small like killdozers) Looks to be a threaded pipe and cotter pin from what I have been told. Look pretty easy to mod. Or you could not use the upper shaft comming out of the driven and just use the chainbox just like killdozer did. You can both ways with this type of sled.

This set up is swaped compared to killdozers. with killdozer setup you have to use the reduction box. with this type of sled you do not. Or you could not use the upper shaft comming out of the driven and just use the chainbox just like killdozer did. You can both ways with this type of sled.

What I thought was interesting was you could line the jack shaft and axle with a few sets of sprockets. This way to swap gearing you just add a chain and take one off.

The last pic is killdozers. See how he has no shaft coming out of the driven? If you have this setup you need to use the reduction unit chain case.

If I had the choice I would chose Killdozers style sled. I like how everything is on one side. More simpler mounting/frame rails as well. The big plus with just using the upper shaft style only would be easy gearing to figure out. Also you may be able to drop the motor lower in the chassis if you were working on a buggy for the jack shaft it taller. Killdozer style the jack shaft in low so motor must sit up higher. On karts it does nat matter though. Just buggy.

No you need a clutch. If you are not going killdozers style I would not even try to put a sled engine in.

Perhaps the sled is over kill here friend. I am pretty sure a sled engine would rip you belt drive up pretty fast. I mean sled engine really fly man. There no joke. If Kildozers kart had wings it could fly.

i believe they have a sprocket off the driven jackshaft. and that just runs a chain to where the track would be on the snowmobile.

Ill see what i can do about getting my hands on that sled engine, but getting my dad to let me buy that (or anything kart related) is like trying to move a mountain... so for now ill stick to modding my little jiandong :)

one question though what do you think has more horses? can go faster?
A-5hp briggs flathead
B-5.5hp tecumseh snowblower engine
C5.5hp jiandong (Honda Clone) engine

Thanks,
Josh
