I don't think anyone is blaming you for the person taking it. Obviously the other person is 100% in the wrong.

HOWEVER... people are greedy... people steal things. It's not intelligent to leave valuable items somewhere insecure without supervision. Always has been, and always will be that way. Imagine what the police would be thinking if someone stole your car because you left it running with the doors open in a cheesy neighborhood.

Yes, schools are supposed to be secure. But they're not, and probably never will be.

Yea, its a classroom, with a teacher in it. I had too much faith in people. I'll never make that mistake again. Maybe I should move to Canada.

No one gets away with anything at my school. We have about 70 cameras in the building as well as 4 rental cops. Outside there are about 15-20 more cameras in the parking lots and just overlooking the grounds.

wtf !!!

that is kind of scary. Why do you need security and cctv at a school?

Honestly, I would have preferred that when I was in high school. Mainly with the fights -- the schools just make up BS about 'participating' in fights because they don't know and don't bother finding out who started them, and punish both people equally even if one was just defending themselves. If someone hits someone else's car in the parking lot, obviously no one claims responsibility. And in this case it may have made it incredibly easy to find out who stole the iPod.

The schools around here have cameras literally everywhere. Several of them can even pan & tilt so they can see every angle. You cant get away with anything.

at my school not much stuff is stolen. however there are 4 security officers that stand together and talk, and 1 permanent cop, another drug cop, and 2 others that are there near the busses in the morning. all the camera's and cops here are only there because so many kids at my school smoke weed. you wouldnt believe that there is still some kids walking down the sidewalk smoking, right next to the cops. and they arent even noticed lol.

did you set a passcode on your ipod?

That reminds me of one guy my HS had, he was like a human drug dog... one day he just walked upstairs and said "I smell weed"... he walked straight up to a locker maybe 200 ft from where he was, had someone open it, and sure enough, there was weed in there :roflol:

I'm even more amazed he could smell that over all the people walking around there that smoke it. Our city has major problems with it.

Regardless of where you go (excluding classrooms and stairwells) there is a little camera bubble visible. We have a security office with 4 plasma screens each with 16 live feeds from the cameras. Our newest addition is a small, lockable entrance vestibule. There are 3 sets of 6 doors in the front of the school, but all but one is locked during the day, and this one takes you into a small, locked box with a window to the security office. You must sign in and present ID to the officer there and they will then buzz you in. There's also a camera in there. Looking at it in depth, it really is a lot of security.

There's even 2 cameras on the baseball field. The claim it's for varsity to record pitchers/batters but we were just told today that they watched us, last Saturday, wrestle the huge field tarp for an hour and 15 mins...from the security office.

And I don't know about specific incidents, but with about 1700 students and 200 faculty, there's too much going on at any time to monitor everything, so POOF...cameras.

Having been to both, a pretty poor public school costing $150 a year, and a private school costing in excess of $40,000 a year.

The public school was shocking, a guy got stabbed with a stanley knife, a guy got smashed over the head with a full beer bottle, a guy got punched in the jaw once, was broken in three places and the gang fights were insane. People coming to school stoned and pissed of there faces was simply amazing. This is at a school with maybe 500 students.

In contrast, the Australian school in Singapore had over 2500 students from over 42 different nations. The only fight I saw when I was there, was between a few of us in a rugby game. Never heard of a think getting stolen. Having 8-10 Gurkhas wondering around properly had an influence.
