Briggs made a kerosene/gasoline engine.
A split tank had gasoline in one side and kero in the other.
Engine was warmed up on gasoline then switched over to the kero side of tank.
Upon shutdown the operation was reversed.
HP does suffer about a 30% loss.

Any idea how the carb was set up? I would have to assume there'd be a heating element in there, or some way to transfer heat to it for the kerosene at the very least to set it apart from a normal one...

In all honesty I do not know much about them...but...from pics and illustrations that I have seen they are/were no different from any other B&S. Same carb, no preheaters...etc.
As long as engine is first warmed up on gasoline, then there should be no problem running on kero.
Many moons ago, I mistakenly put kero in my 1969 Ford Galaxy (302cu.in.) when engine was warm. It seemed to run fine. I parked it overnight and it refused to fire up the next day. That was when I discovered the mistake...a mislabeled gas can.

I have run my Tecumseh lawn mower engine on 75% kerosene 25% gas and it was hard to start but it ran and when I dumped the clutch it would puff a bit of smoke like a diesel. I might get the head milled soon to the max that I can without the valves hitting the head.

if you guna run an engine on kero then mix it with abit of diesel or maybe twostroke oil. I think kero is quite similar to diesel however it dosent have the same lubricating stuff in it. When guys run deisel cars on kero or jet fuel they usualy mix abit of deisel in with it i think

i think it is necessary to prolong engine life. They put nice things in deisel which do nice things to your engine. kero dont have these things.

*from what i have read. I have no idea. I have also read that people usualy add abit of alcohol when running a deisel engine on vege oil. Lots of dudes do it in the UK and a few weirdos over here

i before e except after c.

I before e? Wow. Getting a wee bit picky here?
Anyway, don't use diesel as an example. It's not an english word. Rudolf Diesel was German.

I am very interested, and my 15 year old mind has a tendency to stick with a stupid idea untill something blows up or the flame gets too big
What size/kind of glow plug?

Well today I learned something. I had no gas to mud my lawnmower. There wasn't much more gas than what was in the fuel line. My stepdad did and oil change in his truck. I put almost a full tank of used motor oil in it and it fired up and ran. It will only run on half choke. It smokes alittle and backfired flames out the exhaust, but it ran and had decent power. I dident do any mods to the motor at all. And I rode it for over an hour and it barely burned any oil at all! I still has almost a full tank. The fuel economy doubled!

Also I had a white t shirt tied around my face, so I looked lika gangsta while riding my lawn mower

So it ran on very little oil? What kind of engine was this that happily sipped away at used oil?
