Nice kart and a great price.

There is a mod to the front end that you may have to do. I quess it is unsafe and that model was recalled.

Here is some pics of one I just fixed up for my handicap nephew.

I just put the battery on front. I lost the thread in the site crash. But I will look it up for you. Here some pics of the battery set up.

The front steering was recalled. It has to do how the spindle are are set up. Blaze will know much more. I still have to do this mod to mine. If I recall right Blaze has one of these to do. He is going to take some pics and expain the mod. He is a busy guy though.

Here is the cached thread to my build.

This is what Blaze said about the recall.

Have you fixed the issues with the front steering? Yerf-Dog had a recall on the steering of this early model kart because of over-steer that fold the front wheels nearly straight to the side that would flip the kart, amazingly dangerous. They sent out kits to extend the steering and fix the problem. If you want, PM me and I'll see if I can dig up pictures of a few of this kart we've modified, we have to change up every single one of these we get in due to those problems. This was the second model of kart introduced by Godfrey and wasn't quite right up there. They really did great trying to fix the issue when it was presented to them, its a shame the company folded.

--------------------

The problem was the size of the steering arms on the spindles and the position, you notice how its the same length as the main arm on the column? They need to be double the size and sitting near the wheels, the kit was an extension to accomplish this.

Over-steering in this kart is in effect of the wheels turning nearly horizontal to the kart, it results in the kart's front end locking up, which almost always ends in the kart flipping sideways. I'll check tomorrow and see what we've got to explain what we do.

This is one of the karts we sold a few years ago.

Its kinda impossible to get the kits anymore unless BMI has them somewhere (they did buy out everything Yerf-Dog had right?). We just convert them one at a time by cutting and adding what is necessary.

That's probably why it was recalled and needs to be fixed because if cut too hard, the kart can flip and roll.

well i guess for my steering problem i will just put a restricter to keep me from turning to hard.

You need to mod the steering arm. It needs to come out from inside the wheel. And go out of the inside of the wheel to the side of the tire. Or thats I how I understood it. The pitman arm and the steering arm are the same lenth. Thats the problem.

Great deal! I got a cart for $50.. not quite that nice.. shoulda been more like $30..
anyway if I were you I'd consider bringing forward the front wheels. and maybe getting bigger ones! That'd increase everything. :D

You need to nearly double the spindle length on the kart in order to achieve proper steering geometry, you'll need to cut and re-weld new arms on both spindles, flip the steering so it connects over the top, and purchase new tie rods to achieve proper toe-in.

We still haven't pulled out the Yerf in the side building to rebuild just yet so I don't have any pictures to help you, its identical to yours but just havn't had time yet. The blaze will get time eventually.

You could weld anything to prevent the over-steer but that won't address the difficult steering at the same time. Its hard to steer in addition to locking the wheels nearly horizontally. Just super dangerous the way they put this kart out from the factory, it makes you wonder if anyone drove it around at the factory the way a normal kid would have.
