Hi all i just picked up a go kart with a 3.5 hp briggs and straton motor which is blown up. I'm looking for a direct replacement motor.
B and S was no help they said they no longer make that motor and they offer no replacement (i guess i should have not said go kart:mad2::mad2:) This is a father son project and I need to keep it simple.
So is there a direct replacement?
if not what is the ezest swap?

The motor info is

model 91212 type 0060-01 code 94050403
thanks for the help

yes there is,
http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200383374_200383374

but before you go and buy that, you might want to consider different options/considerations.

could you buy and fix a used engine?
do you want more power?
do you want a name brand?
do you want to go fast, or have tons of power?
is the kart heavy?
what kind of clutch do you have?
do you want a certain style of engine (flat head, OHV, OHC, 2 cycle, ect)?
what is your budget?

most important of those are:
budget.
how much power is needed/wanted.
are you comfortable working on small engines.

Depends on your Budget. You could buy a 6.5 clone from Harbor freight for about $120 bucks and call it a day. It has the same bolt mounting pattern and you can use the same clutch, if the original engine had one. Or find a used engine on craigslist for under $100 but might need maintenance and you won't have much info on the engines history.

Hi,
you could probaly find one on your local craigslist or here.

However, you may want to consider that in a few years your son may want something bigger, so if you wanted you could get something more like a 5hp briggs, and gear it a bit lower.

i would have to agree with r chez 08, a 5hp engine has some pep and is verry suitable for your sons age. Just remember, Horse Power has nothing to do with speed.... Only the get up and go... Gearing has everything to do with your karts speed, so the smarter choice would be a 5HP Flathead, you can pick one up on ebay, craigslist, junkyard, almost anywhere, and parts for it are highly available and everywhere, plus they are a great first learner's engine.

Where do you live? I have one that only needed some carb work but was otherwise brand new. Like 5hrs old brand new. I'm in PA
