Shredder 2, My Design Hybrid Build

I have finally started my kids go kart project. As the title says, it is a mix of the Ubuildit Shredder 2 and my own design. More specific, it will have the front suspension from the Shredder 2, some aspects of the Shredder 2 in the passenger area, and a rear suspension much like the Yerf Dog. It will be powered by a GY6 150cc with reverse, the kids wanted reverse. It will be a single seater. Frame construction will be of 1.25 square tubing-.083, roll cage-1.25 round .120, and front a-arms will be 1.0 square-.083. I hope to be fairly light so it perform well. Mods planned for the GY6 include different slides or roller and clutch spring, air filter, rejetting, exhaust, etc. This will be a rather slow build, but hopefully not too slow!! The saw works beautifully!!! Much better than a chop saw- smoother cuts, more accurate- just love it!!! Thanks for the compliments!!! I did get some work on the front a-arms done tonight, nothing major....drilling, fitting pieces, etc. I hope to have them together this coming weekend and will definitely have more pics by then. Right now, I am trying to decide what tubing bender to buy, either buy the dies from Protools, or buy the complete unit from Affordable Tubing Bender. The Protools will bend past 120 degrees at a radius from 4 to 7 inches depending on die. The one from Affordable will only do 5 inch radius at 90 degrees max. I bought that band saw about 2 weeks ago. I got to cut 4 pieces of tubing and the band twisted. Not sure if I had the spring pulling it too tight or what but it pops off as soon as it touches material now. I can leave it running in a free state for 20 minutes and it will stay on the track but as soon as I lay it down, it jumps off. I am going to run get a new band for it today and hopefully that fixes it.

I been thinking about getting the affordable bender also. Another option is getting a JD2 bender. Here is one on Ebay. They are one of the best for not kinking tubing. A bit more expensive but very nice.

If the blade pops off, it's not on tight enough. Crank it down and then strum it like a guitar string, it should be pretty high pitched and not deflect up and down much at all.

Yeah I had it cranked down. I noticed the pulleys/wheels/ whatever you want to call them, are really rough. Like they painted over rust or something and it has large bumps.

I have researched this band saw and from what I can tell is that the stock blade is basically junk!! I am still using the stock blade but will need to change it very soon. Some of the teeth are starting to fall off. I have the HF bi-metal 10-14 tooth blade to use next and then I have a Lenox blade with the same specs as the replacement for the HF. I read on several forums that the Lenox blades are the best ones to use. I also read to check all the rollers for being tight but not binding. There is a wealth of info on this band saw on the web about modding, maintaining, and improving the performance of this bandsaw.

Awesome! Thank you for the info! It seems to me the roller guide behind the blade where it comes back to the drive is a bad design. I cant see any adjustment available and it has a SERIOUS gap between the blade and roller. If I just turn the saw on, it will run and blade not come off, as soon as I put any cutting pressure on it, it comes off.

I plan on running to HF on my lunch break and picking up a new blade for it to see if that solves the problem.

I just junked my band saw- just wore it out...(It was a cheapo but got many years out of it)
I had a few blades over time that had a small burr where it was welded, It jumped instantly once on the metal..man did I scratch my head for a while..
Once found, I just ground the burr off and up and runnin'..

I've been looking at the High Speed Metal cutoff saws (No Sparks). They are getting more affordable.

Well, you got me wanting one now!!! That is so much faster than a bandsaw!! Now....does anyone want to buy a Dewalt 14" Chop Saw??? LOL!! :thumbsup:

Dang those are nice! That Rage 3 is perfect, $400 though... I guess if I had seen something like that before I bought my band saw I could get one.
