Little help, bought 1st go cart- just added gas, oiled clutch as recommended, and wore out some tires before side-lined. The engine starts but the cart doesn't go! It has a centrifigal clutch and I want to learn how to fix it with my son because it will probably happen again.

Does it make any sound? Does anything smoke? Does the clutch seem to "try" to engage?

When I removed the kart from the garage to take some photos I saw that nylon twine was wrapped around the left rear axle. It must have been dark when I stored it for need of needless repair! However, it didn't have much power. The chains were loose and I loosened the 4 engine mount bolts and moved the engine back. Only the bottom chain tightened up. A test spin showed about 50% power.
What do you suggest? Did the 2 pics go through?

Without the engine running, have someone press down the gas pedal while you look at the throttle lever on the engine. Make sure the throttle is opening completly.

yeah, they didnt go through.

twine around the axle? wow, its probably something simple... hahaha!

or, this could have happened.
you wore out the clutch by revving it with the twine stuck.

is chain attached? (just asking :p)
throttle connected?
u have a live axle?

Chain appears loose. I tried to tighten it up by moving the eng back but only the bottom chain tightened and the top is still sloppy. It picked up a little speed but something was holding it back. The next day it didn't start. I called the shop where I bought it and mech thinks it needs a carb clean at $59 + parts. Mechanic also said it's a difficult job to tighten the chains for a DIY.

Just figured out how to send a pic. It's a Manco 5.0. Now it doesn't start. Sounds like it wants to but just doesn't fire. Mech thinks dirty carb. I didn't start it all summer. He wants $59 + parts. He also says it's a difficult job to tighten the chains for a DYI.

$60 to clean your carb????:roflol:

tell him he is nuts trying to steal your money.

all he is doing cleaning your carbeurator is opening it up and washing some parts then putting it back. takes 5 minutes. there are no "parts" involved.

it is easy to tighten chains, he is lying again.

I'm going to do it myself this wknd. I watched some videos onYou Tube. I don't think I can screw it up. I"ll take pics as I break it down to make sure I put it back togther the right way,and make surw not to lose any parts. I don't have an compresser though.

A compressor isn't necessary. I've cleaned them without. Just get a straight pin to push and gunk out of the jets. Or just blow through them.

is than an insult? he is joking right? maybe new gaskets, if your really pushing it new needle, or float. when moving the engine to tighten the chain push the kart backwards or forwards to allow you to better tighten it. you can also either take out a link, take out a link and put in a half link, take out a few links, take out a few links and put in a half link, or put some washers under your engine (did i forget one? lol)

edit: before cleaning the carb, shoot some carb cleaner in the spark plug hole and pull several times, if it fires like that, but doesn't start, its your carb.

I pulled the carb and sprayed cleaner in it but didn't see the jets! Where are they? I backed out a brass screw from the outer top of the carb that had small holes in it. I pushed a fine wire through the bottom. It had 2 or 3 bigger holes on the shaft. No start after all. Emptied tank and added fresh 91 octane, and brushed off carbon from spark plug. Starting fluid didn't help either. I even sprayed into spark plug hole but don't know if that's advisable. What to do? I'm not giving up.
