Um, .. looks like I have another stumbling block to overcome.

Does anyone know were to get 12" atv or similar rims with a bolt pattern of 4x4.5" (4x114.3mm)?

Or Blank rims that I could CNC the holes?

Hey Bob,

How the heck have you been? ... We haven't heard from you lately.

Regards
Bill

Been raining here for the past 10 days. No work done on the kart, other than trying to mock up an engine mount out of wood before I start welding steel in place. Could not get on the site for the past couple of days. Had to go out of province today, just got back tonight. All is well. :cheers2:

Bill, this is exactly the type of issue that prompted my request. I'm reading through all of this, and it just seems like everything "works". I was having a hard time understanding how you get cv joints from this car, brakes/hub from another car, wheels from a quad, etc... and everything went together like it was meant to be. Anyway, anythings any of you post... I think the more info the better. If someone knows it all, they can read past it. I think detail is great. Thanks.

adapters? ill look a bit more later

The adapters I saw were going from 4x4 TO 4x4.5, ... the wrong direction. ALSO, ... I would prefer to avoid them as they are anywhere from 1.5"-2" thick. That will make the rear end wider by 3"-4". The rear is already about 4" or so wider than the front. I already have to put .250" thick wheel spacers because the threads on the 12mm wheel studs don't go all the way down to the hubs surface like the original 10mm did.

Speaking of the front, ... I have been pondering on dumping the Arachnid front end that I made and going with something else or modifying the arachnid plans.

Joseph,

The (2) CV/Halfshafts and the center differential unit together weight 30 pounds. Both wheel assembly weight in at 40 pounds. The complete drive line setup weighs in at 70 pounds.

This includes the; ... both CV/Halfshafts, assembled center differential unit, both steering knuckled, calipers, rotors, hubs.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I am going to look into this option.

Joseph

Morning Bill, for starters regarding the front end, I would just try longer and better shocks for more travel. The rest looks like it might work just fine. It does seem to be built like a tank as far the front suspension is concerned. Theo mentioned cutting the A-arms (not completely) just behind the heim joints and bending them up basically so they are not bottoming out at the start. Should allow for more adjustment on camber. I might try that after I get a little seat on current configuration. :devil2:

r97,

Yeah, I can come up with those all day long, ... and any of these will fit, ... http://geometroforum.com/single/?p=70103&t=701184

But their all car rims. The one you have pointed out is only 5" wide. Pretty much a pizza cutter wheel when it comes to a dirt tire. My rims for the rear should be able to handle a 10" or so wide tire. Also the bolt pattern is 4x100, ... I need 4x114.3 if you go by metric or 4x4 if you go by English Units. And it was a 13" rim.

Nice looking rim, ... ;)

Thanks for the help, ... I do appreciate it.

Bob,

I went their yesterday I think. I didn't see any 114.3's but I saw a few 115's that I thought I could modify, ... but the largest rim I saw was 7" wide.

yea, i was a bit confused, i saw several rims labeled 4x114.3/100, and though it was the same thing, just different labels because people got tired of saying 114.3, unfortunately i'm not coming up with anything, i could look harder (trust me i can find just about anything on google), but i don't have the time to do a full search until school is over (170 something days)

Try this site for a listing of vehicles that use the 4 on 4.5 bolt pattern

http://www.roadkillcustoms.com/hot-...p?LugCount=4&StudSpreadInch=4.5&StudSpreadMM=

Check out this adapter: available 1" thick. They go from 4.5 to 4 on 4. Not cheap @ $120

http://www.roadkillcustoms.com/hot-rods-rat-rods/Wheel-Bolt-Pattern-Adapters-Wheel-Spacers.asp?id=36

With those adapters, you could go to Jed's tires on Ebay and pick up golf kart rims
