a friend of mine sent this to me in an email.

OIL - you better sit down - Here's an interesting read, important and verifiable information :

About 6 months ago, the writer was watching a news program on oil and
one of the Forbes Bros was the guest. The host said to Forbes, "I am going to
ask you a direct question and I would like a direct answer; how much oil
does the U.S. Have in the ground?" Forbes did not miss a beat, he said, "more
than all the Middle East put together." Please read below.

The U. S. Geological Service issued a report in April 2008 that only
Scientists and oil men knew was coming, but man was it big. It was a
revised report (hadn't been updated since 1995) on how much oil was in
this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota , western South Dakota , and extreme eastern Montana ..... Check THIS out:

http://bakkenshale.net/bakkenshalemap.html

The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska 's Prudhoe
Bay, and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign
oil. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion
barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable... At $107 a barrel,
we're looking at a resource base worth more than $5..3 trillion.

"When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see
their jaws hit the floor. They had no idea.." says Terry John son, the Montana
Legislature's financial analyst.

"This sizable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found
in the past 56 years," reports The Pittsburgh Post Gazette. It's a
formation known as the Williston Basin , but is more commonly referred to as the
'Bakken.' It stretches from Northern Montana, through North Dakota and
into Canada .. For years, U. S. Oil exploration has been considered a dead
end. Even the 'Big Oil' companies gave up searching for major oil wells
decades ago. However, a recent technological breakthrough has opened up
the Bakken's massive reserves.... And we now have access of up to 500
billion barrels. And because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels
will cost Americans just $16 PER BARREL!

That's enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 2041 years
straight. And if THAT didn't throw you on the floor, then this next one
should - because it's from 2006!

U. S. Oil Discovery- Largest Reserve in the World

Stansberry Report Online - 4/20/2006

Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the
largest untapped oil reserve in the world. It is more than 2 TRILLION
barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. In
three and a half years of high oil prices none has been extracted. With this
motherload of oil why are we still fighting over off-shore drilling?

They reported this stunning news: We have more oil inside our borders,
than all the other proven reserves on earth. Here are the official estimates:

- 8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia

- 18-times as much oil as Iraq

- 21-times as much oil as Kuwait

- 22-times as much oil as Iran

- 500-times as much oil as Yemen

- and it's all right here in the Western United States .

HOW can this BE? HOW can we NOT BE extracting this? Because the
environmentalists and others have blocked all efforts to help America
become independent of foreign oil! Again, we are letting a small group of
people dictate our lives and our economy....WHY?

James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says we've got more oil in
this very compact area than the entire Middle East -more than 2 TRILLION
barrels untapped. That's more than all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in
the world today, reports The Denver Post.

Don't think 'OPEC' will drop its price - even with this find? Think
again!
It's all about the competitive marketplace, - it has to. Think OPEC just
might be funding the environmentalists?

Got your attention yet? Now, while you're thinking about it, do this:

Pass this along. If you don't take a little time to do this, then you
should stifle yourself the next time you complain about gas prices - by
doing NOTHING, you forfeit your right to complain.

--------

Now I just wonder what would happen in this country if every one of you
sent this to every one in your address book.

By the way...this is all true. Check it out at the link below!!!

GOOGLE it, or follow this link. It will blow your mind.

we were told it in school
the problem is
enviromentalists
ecomomy
government
and cost
cost because alot of it is oil sands and in little depostists near each other
government because if u think about it why would the US government use all of their resouces when u can buy them and let everyone else use theirs up
i mean u guys have coal resoures second only to china but u are only just above AUS in production and recovery
so that is why there are not oil rigs all over the USA

I do remember hearing something like this back in high school , I think FFA class, ( yes I took FFA , 3 years of it) and our teacher said when we were studding soil that there are deposits of oil through out the midwest but the primary thing is that it was mixed with silty clay loam (type of soil) and the cost of extraction and seperation would cost more then the oil was wearth....but if this other stuff is below all that then it should be a focust thing/priorety.

FFA classes acctualy do teach you things that are helpfull later in life... My old school the FFA class teaches you how to drive tractors and heavy equipment...

But its like water if theres oil deposits in the soil then there has to be more of it down underneath...

It's a question of economics at the moment - it's cheaper to buy foreign oil than it is to recover this stuff for reasons already cited. On a related note, we SHOULD be drilling in Alaska's ANWR and telling the middle east to blow it out their...

I predict massive reform on drilling in the near future, hopefully not a load of ****(yeah right) but what we actually need. All that's really necessary is requiring a relief well BEFORE opening the main well.

The bed-wetters are busy crying themselves to sleep over the spill - but they haven't stopped driving, flying, or otherwise consuming oil now have they. No one is happy about it, but this will pass and we'll be back to worrying about the global warming/cooling farce before you know it. Al Gore has carbon credits to sell and if this carries on much longer he'll have to retool and sell oil credits so that we may be appeased of our guilt.

I've been *****ing about this for years... Can't understand for the life of me why the powers that be in North America insist on relying opon the middle east for oil. I'm not going to get in to a whole rant here, (and believe you me, I could), but in my opinion, life would be a lot easier for the western world if we didn't have all these bloody middle-eastern maniacs holding oil over our heads. Seriously- Wouldn't it be great if we just went ahead and told them all to go flog themselves????

1) I believe it, but can't possibly imagine WHY. Reminds me of the time I spotted Canadian booze in Mexico, and it was retailing for 1/10th what we pay for that exact bottle.

2) Yeah. Heaven forbid we pay a little more to liberate ourselves from under the thumbs of a bunch of nutjobs that enjoy hanging it over our heads.

PLEASE LOOK UP CANADIAN OIL SANDS
that is what u guys have

I'm well aware of the oil sands. And the standard underground wells we have. And the offshore stuff, too. Why do you think I get so incredibly angry over our dependence on the middle east?
We (North America) have more than enough natural resources to nuke the entire middle east, and not miss a beat. Wrong. Very wrong. No, I'm NOT saying we oughta nuke the middle east- I'm just saying I very strongly despise our dependence on them for something we're swimming in.

"It is an employment project" - We need jobs on this scale in this country. The vast majority of workers in this industry are unskilled laborers. In China if you don't work you don't eat. In America, where we're more "enlightened", unskilled laborers won't get out of bed and go to a job like this - because they don't have to. In this country we pay them to stay home and do nothing through various social programs.

Idle hands do the devil's work as they say and otherwise able-bodied men and women fill the void created when they don't go to work with activities which are descructive to themselves, our communities, and our society. Worse yet, they do it at the expense of working people. Not only do we bear the costs of the social services but we also bear the costs of the resulting crime and disorder among other burdens.

While this scenario is bad, you also have to consider which segments of the American population is growing the fastest. The entitlement class is reproducing at a much higher rate than the rest. At some point those who consume will outnumber those who produce. What happens then? Rome and all of the other great societies fell and so too will ours.

The Chinese mindset is all about providing for themselves. The American mindset is all about doing what feels good. We're a nation of spoiled lazy children.
