I bought it as a flood total and reconstructed it myself.



I had never done a flood total before (ususally do collision totals) and never will do another one.

It sure looks good now. That must have been a nightmare, Especially it being a Cadilac with all the fancy electronics and goofy computers. You must have alot of patience.

But yes, a VW Diesel would be much better than the Prius, hah. But our family is Toyota-holic's and he refuses to believe the diesel "is more efficient" theory... complains diesel is more expensive (around here it is).

Diesel is more expensive, but the efficiency & longevity of diesel engines is soo much better than gas.

Diesels are a entirely different animal than gasoline powered engines... much more efficient IMO... however, he didn't take VW seriously when their high mileage diesels hit the lots... :\

Theres dozens of cars, purely gas burning ones, Older cars too, that make almost or as good of milage as a prius and at a fraction of the cost. Its ridiculous

Diesel volkswagons got over 40mpg Back in THE 80'S!
Hell, An late 80's Crown Vic 302 v8 can get 28mpg Highway
Crown Victorias are Big heavy cars too, that still blows my mind. Not really hard to do with tall enough rear end gearing, a vacuum gauge(more manifold vac=more MPGs) and knowing what you are doing.
I know the old ford fiestas were burning gas and getting 40+mpgs

You think they would be wayyyy ahead of the Prius as far as milage goes by now.

Emissions controls often do not help efficiency. In the early-mid 80s you could get a 3rd gen camaro/firebird with a 2.5 liter iron duke 4 banger, the 4 speed auto and 5 speed stick were EPA certified for 30-31 highway, that's a 3000lb+ RWD car with fat tires. Not some 2000lb econobox on pizza cutters.

Hey just use off road diesel... cops dont have to know or water down the batch of diesel with some off road and mabey some kero.. what ever you like even used cookin oil

It was a nightmare, but I learned a lot. Every little function in the car has it's own "module" that communicates with one of 3 master modules (2 for the body, one for the drivetrain). It's a very sophisticated computer network. I had a collision totaled car from which I took all of the electronics. All the modules register themselves with their master to thwart chop shops from selling pieces of the cars. The dealer has to do the registration with a dealer-specific programming tool. I finally found a dealer that wasn't scared of it to reprogram the whole thing. I wound up using the factory drivetrain module (PCM) and the air bag module. The air bag module failed soon after I rebuilt the car, which was predictable.

The car met its maker last year when I was cut off by the Chief of Police. Both air bags blew - they were all muddy :-o

Yep. Actually, now that I look back, it looks like I must have replaced the driver's side bag. The passenger side bag was muddy. And broke the windshield. Bonus!

Yep. I had some left over from the rebuild. 2 side bags and a passenger front bag. Blew 'em all. After all, it's the responsible thing to do before you put them in the trash. Good times.
