Hi DIY Karts!
Thought I'd share my current project as my first thread here! :D
It is a little 196X Rugg Carpet cut that I found, in a barn, rusting away and seized. Dug it out of the barn and immediately thought "this needs to go fast!.. REALLY fast!" I junked the worn out and seized briggs 5 horse flathead and dropped in a lawnboy Duraforce 6.5hp engine. I swapped the pulley ratio and pretty much rode it liek that for a while, it could top out at some pretty scary speeds but it had no torque (untuned, unmodified 2-stroke, no big surprise here) So I acquired a nearly brand new 7hp briggs intek (aftermarket animal cam anybody? ;)) OHV push mower engine and dropped it in... and holy torque! I was keeping up with cars in second gear with 1/4 throttle! (3 speed manual) Well, on the last run I broke the inner shaft that goes from the diff to the right wheel and lost the wheel while I was pulling up my driveway, and I wore out the bearingless sleeve on the transmission. For right now, all I have are some older videos of it and pictures. Once I get some more work done I will keep you guys up to date in this thread :D Hope you like!

My friends and I did something similar. We switched the pully ratios, put in a 5 speed transmission, added a clutch, add propane injection (something about running too lean at full open throttle). I think it had a 15hp engine too... It was dubbed the Death Mower and it eventually died because they drove it over too many bumps and the transfer case eventualy cracked in half.

That sounds like it was a BEAST! :D

LONG OVERDUE UPDATE!
The little runt now has a Vanny V-Twin :devil2: We are finishing up the steering, got linkages going over the engine due to the size difference of the vanguard compared to the push mower engines
SHOULD have a video it running and driving in a week or so, no promises though!
(Btw, that's my friend in the pic. Gives an idea of how little the tractor is)
