Generally 2 strokes have more top end and 4's have more low end. So a 4 stroke will have more torque then again a 2 stroke has more acceleration. You cant really do a general "which is better" since there all different. 2 strokes usually rev a lot higher then 4's. 2 strokes really have more grunt to them and sound fricken awesome. Also real easy to mod.
:iagree:What he said!

I'm sad to see the EPA and other nutjobs continuing to destroy perfectly good and safe devices in the name of "global warming" or other crap. They're running this country into the ground. I just found out that they don't make Johnson outboard motors anymore, even the small ones. Thank god for E-techs. If they had any proof of anything noticable happening to the climate I would understand some of what they're doing.

Sure is. Another thing to take note of. Theres a lot of Four Stroke lovers on here and some Two Stroke lovers so the 4s guys will say the 2s are crap and the 2s will say the 4s are crap. At the end of the day, get what ever you can find. If ur in Aus or NZ then get a victa since u can get one by just walking down ur street. If it ever blows all u gotta do is have a little stroal around the neighbourhood to get a new one.

Yes villiers, i am building a bike with one -

http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=7838&highlight=board

Cool as little engines, but not suitable for a kart as they are heavy and have little torque & low top end rev's, but they look just wicked on a bike.

Those victa's look cool with the pear shaped shroud and are easy to modify, i have one at home i am in the process like all things of restoring.

I thought about making a boxer 2 out of two masport iron horses, those new ones at 4hp would be suitable but better to get a motorbike engine for under $400.

I like two strokes for thier power to weight ratio, and 4 stroke's for their torque.

Cheers Cam.

I think the same as russ, I'm a vintage karter, and to me the two stroke is the only way to go. For children or people who just want to putt around, you can't beat a 4 stroke. But to me, for outright speed, it's gotta be a two banger, lighter, you can mod them cheaply, you can draw a lot of extra power, and they are simpler = less to go wrong!

Regarding the future of the two stroke lawn mower, that guy is full of BS. I spoke with another shop, the guy has been my families mower mechanic for years (car too), and he told me you can buy lots of two strokes. In his shop he has Suzuki, Iron Force and victa.

I did speak with masport NZ and Victa NZ, both said the same, that they have no plans of discontinuing the 2 stroke.
Here is what victa said

"Justin,

At this stage we have no plans to discontinue our 2 stroke engine.

Regards,

Carl."

Theres nothing to two strokes. Its just a crankcase, barrel, head and piston. :) I can pull apart a victa in about 10 minutes.

Hell, I can pull a Victa of the mower and put a new piston in it and have it fired up in less than an hour....

Dead simple engines, I love em!

Thanks

Hayden

Sleds are easy compared to bikes when it comes to bottom ends. Top end rebuilds are nothing...bottom ends can be a ***** without the right tools.
