I've got an Kubota whipper snipper (that's what Australians call weed wackers) engine, it's the best quality small capacity 2 stroke I've ever seen. It's 42cc and a monster of an engine, if I was buying a whipper snipper then I'd get a Kubota one (I got this an an incomplete whipper snipper) but this engines going on a kart :devil2:.

Anyway, I'd pick a 2 stroke any day...

Thanks

4 stroke honda ones are excellent. Very economical, not heavy at all and have no problems with running at angles. Also very reliable. Hondas are always a good buy. Sure there pricey but they last for ever.

I would not say that they are a waste of money because my friend use one at work every 3 days for 2 years now and never had a problem starting it. It always starts on first pull and they have a lot of torque. But on my side I would stay with the stihl because it is a bit less expensive and the quality of the parts is incredible. My only doubt with the honda is that they only make weed whackers for 5 years now I think and Stihl have a lot more experience making them so I think they will last longer.

I see...so there a mix of a two a four, my question is are there any 100% four stroke weed eaters? those are the type im talking about, when i say i find it very hard to believe they will run upside down all day long without any problems at all.

Honda 25/35cc's. True 4 stroke, not a gas/oil mix. Runs 360 degrees.

Another great invention from Honda:2guns:

4 strokes can work at weird angles or why do they put them in aircraft
(im well aware it would be engineered differantly to a simple ground engine but if u crossed this technology over it would work otherwize the papers would be filled of reports that a plane turned too sharp and the engine broke, stopped and the plane crashed

Aircraft engines are radial. Totally different setup. Cant really relate the two.

There have been lots of different aircraft engine layouts, radial, opposed, upright, V, inverted, whatever. Aircraft engines have a dry sump, which means the oil is pumped into the bearing surfaces, it oozes out, then it collects in a sump where it gets sucked up by the pump and returned to a large oil tank.

I suppose you could build a weed whacker this way, but it seems unlikely because of the excessive complexity. You could just let the oil bounce around at whatever angle you hold the machine, but that would cause problems with the breather port. The other option would be to have an un-vented crank case so you don't get oil shooting out the breather, but that doesn't seem likely, either because then the piston has to fight against pressure in the crankcase.

The only good way to settle the question would be to look at the engine and see how they decided to build it.

First off, if you're tipping it sideways, you need an edger, not a weed whacker, IMO. I got a Craftsman 2 stroke for around the house, works great, no choke, just prime, warm up, and go. Best thing about it is 1 string you pull through head, no winding headaches. The worst cold blooded piece of **** weed wacker I ever had was a Snapper- Steer clear of this junk. Stihl should be ok, but be aware you are paying for the name in part.

Using a weedeater is 10 times easier & quicker than an edger. Plus it would save some $$.
