wood joints

ok i lack a decent work bench

and i have 15 of 8 by 4 inch by 8 metre jarrah planks that i got a while age to do a job that didn't eventuate
only cost $100 for the lot

only problem is a lack any wood working tools

iv got a chain saw and a chisel

this thing will be bolt together mostly

but i need some sort of simple joints that i can make easy with simple tools

a mortise and tenon would look the best but isn't practical
anything simple i have forgotten about

wood dowels?

There are jigs to drill perfectly aligning holes

I got a wolfcraft dowelmaster for cheap a few years back for example,
it's small, and works well in most cases

I prefer biscuit joints though, but since I don't have a saw for those and the jig above was cheap..

it doesn't get much simpler than that or at least I can't think of a simpler way to join wooden planks.

iv been trying to remember this all day

we use this to make strainer posts
but use fibre glass rod or stainless steel rod
mind blank all day

most of the saw mills were built pre metric system

so they all cut 2x4, 4x8 and so on

but theyre sold in metric lengths
because thats what most of the worlds works on

itll be a 2 by 3 metres
so i can get a standard sheet of steel on it

and because my neigbour has sheets of chip board in that size

6.5 by 9.8 ft
or do u want fractions

I was going to suggest just using a sheet of plywood and screwing your planks in place so they are the top side of your bench.

I have two 2.4384m x.60960m benches that can be joined at the ends for a bench 4.8768m long. Used for tacking airframes.

Dude, that's gonna be one HE!! of a bench, I hope you don't plan on moving it... EVER!

For the deck, dowel joints as Alex suggested &, for the frame, lap joints:

yea itll be built in my out door area out the back of the shed

and stay there
probs sell it with the house
and because itll be built in place itll sit flat in that location
which is in no way a flat surface
so anywhere else itll proberbly not sit level

itll double as a work bench but ill clean it if theres people round to eat from

got a plastic out door table there now
good for eating
doesnt handle a motorcycle engine on it
and welding on it hasnt done it any good

might have tee'd up my neighbour to fold up a drop on 1.2mm steel top

but non of this will happen to next weekend
as for anyone unaware its sunday afternoon here and i'll be working all week

oh and my neighbour has a 9 in circular saw
thatll be a bit easier than a chain saw
